Stretched out in the sun-baked grass of Cosmo Canyon, Nanaki gazed up into the starry sky.
He waved his tail, over his head and between his legs, imagining the flame-like tuff at the end sweeping the stars away like dust off of a tabletop.
The memory of stars over Cosmo Canyon is what kept Nanaki sane when he was imprisoned in Midgar. Thrown into a dark, windowless cell, the only light he saw was the harsh glare of the surgical spotlights, as Nanaki was bound to the experiment table. As all sorts of horrible tubes, pins and wires were being pushed into his body, Red XIII pretended that the twinkling lights of the machinery were his beloved stars.
To have a falling star destroy that terrible place seemed like poetic justice.
