Summon Stamping Booth

Sep 24, 2012 21:20

A staple of the Final Fantasy franchise since FFIII, summons are some of the most recognizable creatures in the series. While very few have a major role in the story they often help immensely in battle by dealing immense damage to your enemy, casting status effects to help you gain the advantage, or by healing your wounds and bringing the party back into the fight.

Which brings us to the point of this booth: have you ever wondered what your summon would be? We're here to help you find out!

How it Works

The way this booth is very similar to ff_classchange: you fill out an application and other users vote for the summon they think fits your answers best. Those who vote gain points for their teams, so even those who don't post an app here get "prizes" in a sense. If you want to join in on the fun there are two places to post: here at this booth through comments or at ivalice_rating!

Rules

>> Vote whenever you can! Rating activities run on votes so please vote when you get the chance. When you do vote be sure to bold your votes. Example: I could see you summoning Ifrit because...

>> If you do post at at ivalice_rating, be sure to make your application public so that everyone has the ability to vote for you.

>> Remember to fill out the entire application. Not only does it help the voters, but there are sections that help me determine what you want on your stamp :)

>> Try to elaborate as much as you can. It helps voters get a better idea of who you are, therefore you get more accurate votes. Also try to elaborate in your votes so that the applicant can see where your reasoning is coming from :)

Prizes and Points

The main prize at this booth is a personalized stamp based on the amount of votes your get in your application, but there is also a potential to gain gil and net you some points for your team!

>> 50 gil for posting an application
>> 5 points and 50 gil per vote

The three users who vote the most will also get special banners for their continued support :)

Would you prefer your name or username on your stamp?

You're dealing with an enemy that isn't very powerful. What sort of strategy do you use? Are you just spamming attacks or are you being more tactical?

When fighting a boss would your strategy change any from a regular enemy?

How do you want the summon to look once you summon it? Is it fairly simple or more on the flashy side?

To obtain your summon you have to battle it. Do you think you'd get another item besides the summon? (Gil, rare items, etc.)

Now that you've obtained your summon what sort of ability do you imagine it having? Is it for healing or for incredibly strong attacks?

What traits do you admire in your partners? And what sort of traits do you not like in others?

Do you think you'd prefer a summon that attacks multiple times or would you rather have one attack that is very powerful?

What are your three favorite Final Fantasy games? (That way if the summon you get a stamp for is in one of your favorites we can place its appearance from that game on your stamp!):

Summons List

Being as there are so many summons in the series I have a very condensed list here. But you don't have to keep your votes within this list: all summons that are in any Final Fantasy game are available options :)

>> Alexander
"An ancient weapon imbued with a sacred power."
Alexander is a summoned creature whose attack, Divine Judgment, sometimes just called Judgment or Justice, deals Holy-based damage to all enemies. Alexander first appears as an esper in Final Fantasy VI and despite it not being summonable in Final Fantasy IX, it plays a major role in the plot.

>> Anima
"Feel my pain! Come, Anima!"
Anima is an aeon in Final Fantasy X that deals an immense amount of damage with all attacks. Pain, her special attack, is an instant kill, which also deals colossal damage to the few enemies immune to death spells. It also ignores defense and is actually more effective than her Overdrive, Oblivion, versus some stronger enemies like Dark Bahamut.

>> Asura
"A six-armed summon with three faces - anger, benevolence, and joy."
Asura is a summon that has only appeared in one main game, but has appeared in some spin-offs. Asura is a healing summon in Final Fantasy IV. When called, Asura casts one of three spells depending on which face is showing when summoned: if she shows her serene (Pale) face she casts Curaga on the party, if she shows her happy (Gray) face she will cast Life, and if she shows her angry (Orange) face, she will cast Protect. In the original SNES release the angry face casts Curaga and the serene face casts Cura, due to the Protect spell being removed from the game.

>> Bahamut
"Conqueror of the skies, Bahamut has known many names; the Dragon King, the Hallowed Father, the First Sire."
Bahamut, sometimes known by his epithet "The Dragon King," is one of the most popular summons in the Final Fantasy series. He has appeared in several installments, as well as his own game, Bahamut Lagoon. His attack, Megaflare, sometimes translated as Sun Flare, deals non-elemental magic damage which ignores defense and evasion. Bahamut is typically considered the strongest among storyline summons and more often than not, the player must prove his/her worth by winning a battle against Bahamut himself, or, rarely, another storyline boss.

>> Cactuar
"Few know that this reclusive desert-dwelling creature lashes together individual needles for its 1000 Needle attack, a fact which suggests that Cactuars are in fact intelligent enough for tool use."
The Cactuar is a recurring enemy from the Final Fantasy series as well as appearing as a summon. Usually becoming available after defeating the Jumbo Cactuar, the cactuar uses 1000 Needles as its main attack, though this does not necessarily inflict 1,000 points of damage.

>> Carbuncle
"A beast with a crimson jewel shining from its forehead."
Carbuncle, sometimes translated as Carbunkl or Carbunkle, is a recurring summon that appears in various games in the Final Fantasy series. Its ability, Ruby Light, bestows Reflect on the entire party. Its name is an archaic word for "Ruby", which commonly adorns its forehead.

>> Chocobo
"A breed of flightless birds, characterized by their yellow feathers, distinct odor, and the unforgettable chirp, 'kweh!' Domesticated for their gentle nature and quick feet, they are often used as a mode of ground transportation."
Chocobos appear as Level 1 Summons in Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy V, but they are also available as a Summon for Rydia in Final Fantasy IV. Learned from the Level 1 Summon Magic spell "Escape" in Final Fantasy III, its three summoning actions are a failure and other two abilities: Chocobo Dash allows the party to escape battle and Chocobo Kick deals damage based on the difference in level between target and caster. Occasionally, a Fat Chocobo will appear instead of the regular summon in Final Fantasy V.

>> Diabolos
"Demon who bends gravity to his will."
Diabolos, also known as Diablos, is a recurring creature in the series that has most often appeared as a summoned monster. He first appeared in Final Fantasy VIII and his trademark ability is Dark Messenger. Diabolos is often aligned with the Gravity element. Even though his nature and backstory change, Diabolos's appearance throughout the series is consistent.

>> Gilgamesh
"Enough expository banter! Now we fight like men! And ladies! And ladies who dress like men! For Gilgamesh... it is morphing time!"
Gilgamesh is a recurring character in the Final Fantasy series. Initially introduced as a minor villain, he has made a number of appearances in remakes and later titles. Gilgamesh's first appearance as a summon is in Final Fantasy VIII where he appears as a pseudo-Guardian Force only obtainable if the party acquired Odin before entering the Lunatic Pandora and fighting Seifer at the end of disc 3. Odin will attack at the beginning of the battle, but Seifer will use Zantetsuken Reverse and slice Odin in half instead. Odin's Zantetsuken creates a rift in space/time, from which Gilgamesh appears and picks it up. Later in the fight, if it has lasted for more than 12 rounds, Gilgamesh will appear and defeat Seifer. Afterwards, he will appear at random during battles just like Odin to attack enemies with one of four random swords, but unlike Odin, Gilgamesh can appear even during boss battles and any time during battle, not necessarily at the battle's start.

>> Ifrit
"A powerful djinn with control over scorching flames hot enough to turn the whole world to ashes."
Ifrit is a Fire-elemental Summon which appears in several games in the series. His signature attack is called Hellfire, or sometimes Inferno or Flames of Hell, and deals scorching Fire-elemental damage to all opponents. He is one of the most frequently appearing summons and is often a rival to the ice summon Shiva.

>> Ixion
"Stampeding destrier that tramples foes 'neath thunderous hooves."
Ixion is a summon from the later games in the Final Fantasy series. Replacing Ramuh as Spira's lightning summon and appearing for the first time in Final Fantasy X, Ixion is always horse-like in his appearances. Ixion's special move is Aerospark, where Ixion will fire two discs that collide with a single enemy, causing non-elemental damage. The attack also negates certain special magical effects such as Protect, Shell, Reflect, and Haste. Ixion's Overdrive is Thor's Hammer, where Ixion charges electrical energy on the tip of his horn and shoots it toward the enemy, lifting it into the air. While still connected by an electrical current, Ixion sends a blast of electricity to the enemy, causing lightning damage.

>> Leviathan
"A massive sea serpent that effortlessly controls water and rules all who dwell in the oceans. The raging swell of his 'Tsunami' is enough to consume even the fiercest of foes."
A giant sea serpent, Leviathan first appeared as a monster that swallowed the party in Final Fantasy II, and went on to become one of the most prominent summons in the series alongside Bahamut, being known by titles such as "the Sea King", or "Lord of All Waters". In the later titles of the series, Leviathan's prominence diminished as Bahamut gained more status and popularity. Leviathan's trademark attack is Tidal Wave, also known as Tsunami, which calls on a massive wave of water to damage all enemies. Leviathan plays a major role in Final Fantasy IV, where he is titled "The Lord of All Waters". He is the king of the Eidolons that live on a parallel plane of existence in the Underworld, the Feymarch, and rules the summoned monsters with Queen Asura.

>> Magus Sisters
"Eldest sister Cindy, middle sister Sandy, and youngest sister Mindy: the Magus Sisters"
The Magus Sisters first appear as a boss in Final Fantasy IV but were optional summons in Final Fantasy X. Unlike most aeons, the Magus Sisters attack as three separate players. Their specific commands cannot be controlled; Yuna can only suggest actions for them to take by shouting commands such as "Fight!", "Help Each Other!", "Go, Go, Go!" etc, however the resulting effect under each heading is random. Their Overdrive is Delta Attack, and is only used when all three of their gauges fill up.

>> Odin
"A legendary knight who rides his beloved horse Sleipnir to deliver a crushing blow, the "Zantetsuken.""
Odin is a recurring summon in the series. Most commonly, Odin will appear and slice though enemies with his sword, cleaving them in two and inflicting Instant Death, which that of his ability in most Final Fantasy games is called "Zantetsuken". Other games give Odin the ability to damage enemies normally as well, should they be immune to instant death.

>> Quetzalcoatl
"Earthbound avian who flings bolts of lightning from his lowly perch."
Quetzalcoatl is a recurring summon in the Final Fantasy series. Its appearance has changed greatly since its first appearance in the relatively late Final Fantasy VIII as Quezacotl. This aside, Quetzalcoatl always appears as a Lightning-based summon, and as a winged creature of some sort.

>> Ramuh
"An ancient, ageless mage bearing the dazzling power of lightning."
Ramuh is a recurring character and summoned creature affiliated with thunder and lightning, and is represented as an old man carrying a staff. His signature attack is called Judgement Bolt. Ramuh is one of the few summons to play a major role in the storyline of a game. In Final Fantasy VI, he relates to the party the general details of the War of the Magi and what has led the espers to flee the human world, before sacrificing his life to become magicite and aid them in battle. In Final Fantasy IX, Ramuh appears to Princess Garnet and gives her a trial requiring the party to find the parts of a story and relate them to Ramuh, before Ramuh again gives himself up to become Garnet's eidolon.

>> Shiva
"The empress of ice, wreathed in frost. She is known for her signature move, 'Diamond Dust', which freezes everything in an instant."
Shiva is a frequently recurring summoned monster who usually takes the shape of a blue-skinned woman with clothing of the same color. Her signature attack, Diamond Dust (sometimes called Gem Dust), deals Ice-elemental damage. Shiva has occasionally been shown as one of the more "friendly" summonable entities, only requiring being fought to gain her services in a few Final Fantasy games, and she usually does not display malicious intent when doing so.

>> Siren
"Irresistible songstress who beguiles eye and ear alike."
Siren is a recurring summon in the Final Fantasy series often portrayed as a beautiful woman who plays a harp. Her attacks usually focus on inflicting Silence on the opponent, but they sometimes also do minor damage.

>> Yojimbo
"Please, clear us a path."
Yojimbo is an aeon from Final Fantasy X. He is acquired by visiting the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth, where the player must hire him to become Yuna's aeon. Yojimbo acts as a sword-for-hire and has four different attacks, depending on how much the player pays him as well as a complex mathematical formula based on his worker-employer relationship with Yuna and several other factors.
