Notes:
A character-driven story of the events leading to Sephiroth's birth, Aeris's conception, and Vincent's resurrection. Told in a non-linear fashion with multiple points of view, this story picks and mixes from both the original game continuity and the Dirge of Cerberus continuity in an effort to rationalise the actions of the Jenova Project team, predominantly via character development/deconstruction. Featuring speculation, worldbuilding, and character backstory creation, this story assumes the reader has full knowledge of the characters' respective endings, and uses the dramatic irony cudgel and slight AU twists to build suspense and interest in a story where everyone's fate is already known. The major alternate-universe "event" is not revealed until the final chapter, as the final ironic strike.
Summary:
In a Midgar where martial law has been declared and Shinra's dictatorship is outwardly benign, paternal, and total, Lucrecia Crescent lives and works entirely in a secure and wholly stable present tense. The unexpected arrival of two of Shinra's Turks reawakens Lucrecia's fear of being called to account for her past guilts, of which the death of Grimoire Valentine is only the most recent.
