additional notesThis is this the second of two one-shots I wrote today. For the one-hour fic challenge, aoimidori picked two of my responses to prompts given to me in this one-sentence fic meme I did sometime ago, plus an additional prompt given shortly before the challenge started. With that prompt, we are to write a fic at least 500 words in length. Lots of inside jokes in this one, simply because we mix our fandoms up like candies. You can read her fic for this challenge here, featuring Kangin, Eeteuk, Aiba, and Jun in a nice New Year's Eve celebration outdoors with sake and soju.
original sentence
(super junior / arashi) nino / kyuhyun - spam and games. 52 wds.

Kyuhyun was getting sick of Nino beating him in video games every single time that he decided to challenge the older boy in a cooking match to save his ego; unfortunately for Kyu, Nino knew that spam had to be sliced before being fried and Kyu lost miserably against Nino - AGAIN.

additional prompt
nino / kyuhyun - ohno, variety shows, softdrinks

This one is just so much crack. I love it!

Loud music filled the studio as the filming for the first episode of Explorers of the Human Body's second season began. Bright lights shone upon the twenty people in front of the camera. Just behind the video crew, staff members were rushing back and forth, passing all sorts of items to make filiming go as smoothly as possible. They didn't want to displease the show's guests with any signs of inefficiency.

"Yes, folks, we're back!" Shin Dongyup said with gleaming eyes towards the camera. "And for our second season's pilot episode, we invited one of Asia's hottest idol groups today!"

The camera panned towards the group of five on Shin Dongyup's right side. Aiba flashed his pearly whites as the rest of the Arashi crew waved at the camera. On the other side, the members of Super Junior clapped and cheered for their Japanese guests.

"Hi, we are Arashi!" They gave a bow they introduced themselves in a form of mangled Korean that made the lady interpreter standing behind Shin Dongyup and Aiba cringe.

Shin Dongyup then spoke to the camera again. "As usual, of course, we have our dear Super Junior!" This time, the camera panned towards Shin Dongyup's left and thirteen boys waved madly at the camera. Kangin stepped forward and did a strange dance to grab attention.

"For today's episode," Shin Dongyup began then gave a dramatic pause. "We will explore our body's digestive system!"

Following the script, Heechul stepped forward with a slightly annoyed look on his face. "We did that last season. Why are we doing it again?" The interpreter translated what Heechul said to Arashi, although unnecessary, because Heechul's interruption was planned.

"Because for today's explorations, we have contributions from none other than Aiba Masaki-sshi, who is the mind behind the ground-breaking experiments in the popular Japanese TV show A no Arashi!" Shin Dongyup answered and the rest of Super Junior and Arashi clapped their hands. Fake applause rang in the background. Aiba waved at the camera again.

"So, Aiba-sshi, what would be our first experiment about the digestive system today?" Shin Dongyup asked.

The interpreter swiftly translated this accordingly, and Aiba answered, "Today, we will see the effect of drinking softdrinks." Aiba let the interpreter speak before he continued. "We will do that by having a contest between two people One will drink three glasses of Coke while the other one will drink three glasses of water. Afterwards, they will go through an obstacle course and see if drinking Coke has any effect on our physical abilities." After a translation was given to the Koreans on the set, a bunch of 'oooh's and 'aaah's floated in the air.

"That is brilliant, Aiba-sshi!" Shin Dongyup explained. "Now, let us pick one member from Super Junior and one member from Arashi." All of a sudden, bright stage light flashed on Kyuhyun, Super Junior's youngest member. Kyuhyun had a genuinely shocked look on his face since it was usually Hyukjae or Kangin who got the spotlight in this show. The other members clapped and gave him small pushes of encouragement.

"And from Arashi," Shin Dongyup paused dramatically for a second, then bright stage light shone on Nino, who was just right beside Aiba. "Ninomiya Kazunari-sshi!" Nino just smiled and gave a bow.

The two stepped forward and stood on either side of a table at the center. On Nino's side of the table was a glass and a bottle of Coke. Kyuhyun was to drink water. Shin Dongyup stood between the two of them and raised his left hand.

"One, two, three, START!"

Kyuhyun and Nino gulped down their respective beverages as quickly as they could. Their bandmates cheered for them in the background. "Go, Kazu!" Nino heard Ohno cheer from behind him and he smiled and gave a thumbs up sign in response. Kyuhyun, on the other hand heard Donghae and Sungmin cheering for him the most and he winked at them to show his appreciation.

Kyuhyun finished his three glasses of water before Nino did and he dashed towards the start of the obstacle course. Ha, I'm so going to win this! he thought. He crawled underneath a volleyball net laid between two pieces of wood a foot above the ground. He was concentrating on getting one hand in front of the other when he noticed a small, thin figure crawling quickly ahead of him at unimaginable speed.

---

Both Super Junior and Arashi cheered as Nino emerged victorious from the obstacle course. Kyuhyun crawled out a few seconds later, receiving cheers of slightly less volume. Shin Dongyup stood beside Nino and started to ask him questions.

"So, Ninomiya-sshi, you started the obstacle course a minute after Kyuhyun-goon did, but you finished it a few seconds ahead. How did you feel?" Shin Dongyup asked. The interpreter translated this for Nino, who was jumping up and down with a huge smile on his face.

"I don't really know. I just felt a surge of energy and I couldn't stop moving!" Nino answered gleefully. Ohno held on to his shoulders from behind to stop him from jumping up and down.

After Nino's answer was translated by the interpreter, Sungmin stepped forward. "I know what it is!" he exclaimed. "Sugar rush!" he continued in English so the interpreter wouldn't have to translate.

Super Junior and Arashi cheered. "Ah, our Sungmin-goon is very brilliant, isn't he?" Shin Dongyup remarked.

The filming continued, but Kyuhyun decided to stay in the background. He didn't like losing, not at all. He stood quietly as more experiments were done, with a plan for revenge forming in his mind.

---

That night, Arashi went to Super Junior's dormitory to celebrate the successful filming of Explorers of the Human Body. The atmosphere was slightly awkward at first, but eventually, Super Junior decided to try if the Japanese lessons they had taken during their days as trainees would work with Arashi, and they were able to communicate effectively with each other.

Nino was chatting with Sungmin when Kyuhyun tapped him on the shoulder from behind. On the other side of the sofa, Jun and Donghae were talking to each other in hushed tones.

"Rematch. Now," was all Kyuhyun said and signalled towards the kitchen with a smug look on his face. Nino had no idea what the younger boy meant by that but he followed Kyuhyun into the kitchen anyway. Sungmin looked curiously but stayed in the living room because of Sho whispering something to him about Jun and Donghae sitting comfortably with each other on the other side.

In the kitchen, Nino grew nervous as Kyuhyun looked straight into his eyes.

"I can't accept this morning's defeat," he said. "So we must have a rematch."

"Hey," Nino began. "You really shouldn't be taking the obstacle course thing seriously and -"

He was interrupted when Kyuhyun handed him a frying pan and a can of Spam luncheon meat.

"A cooking match?" Nino asked. Kyuhyun nodded with a serious look on his face. "What the hell does a cooking match have to -" Nino decided not to complain. He realized that although he really didn't want to take what happened in today's filming seriously, he surely wanted to beat Kyuhyun again, just for the fun of it.

"Fine, fine, let's do it!" Nino said and walked to the kitchen table, where he grabbed the can opener and began to slice the spam into one-centimeter thick pieces. He stopped in surprise at his fifth slice, however, when the smell of frying luncheon meat wafted through the air.

No way! He couldn't have sliced it that quickly! Nino thought and rushed to the stove where Kyuhyun was standing. He knew he shouldn't lose his cool but he was curious. Kyuhyun moved aside slightly, proud of getting to fry his spam first. Inside the frying pan, a huge block of meat was drowning in what seemed to be a bucket's worth of cooking oil. Nino sniggered, while Kyuhyun, misinterpreting this, smiled at him smugly.

"So, who's going to judge this rematch?" Nino asked, stifling a laugh, as he went back to the kitchen table. He was quite sure that victory was once again in his hands.

# I remember reading somewhere in one of their 2006 interviews that Kyuhyun actually fried spam before slicing it and boasted that it was the "new way of cooking spam."
# aoimidori corrected me and said that A no Arashi is not a TV show on its own, but actually a TV segment. Please padon the minor boo-boo.
