Group FFVII Playthrough - Week One

There’s been a few changes to the timeline, just FYI. First of all, I’m posting this earlier than anticipated due to unexpected scheduling conflicts. Secondly, I’m giving us an extra week to finish everything due to February being a short week! The full schedule will be at the bottom.

- Booting up the game's like coming back to an old friend, it's been so long since I last played it.

- Names. Cloud - Kuraudo, Barret - Barreto, Tifa - Tiffa you can probably tell where I'm going with this... though I haven't decided on whether to name Cid Shid or Shed, depends on how stupid I'm feeling. I switch up the part members regularly... because I like looking at the weapons I get for them /lame

- The opening always takes me back to the first time I saw it and how amazed I was when I first took control of Cloud. PERSPECTIVE. He can move forwards AND backwards and he gets smaller when he runs further away MIND BLOWN. I also like the length of the FMV cutscenes, I'm not a fan of overly long cutscenes.

- The ATB, it's so slow and that's going to annoy me. I can't wait to stock up on a ton of hastes.

- A mannerism of Clouds I never noticed before, when he stands on the tips of his toes (though he's only done it twice so far so it might not last). He did it in paperclipchains screenshot then downstairs in Seventh Heaven and gets

- Noticing more random capitalization and odd punctuation this time, oh game.

- The first reactor blew up just after 3:35 according to the clock in the slums.

Must be PM, too, since an NPC tells you that it was done during broad daylight, not while people were asleep.

What's everyones battle strategy? I have everyone attack one enemy at a time and I don't use magic that often except in boss fights.

I used to be super stingy about MP but I've stopped that now. I try to pair at least one attack spell with an all to speed things up, or target-all enemy skill materia. Usually I let Aeris play mage. She tends to have more than enough MP to carry me through.

Which materia do you give to the characters?
Beyond the initial distribution (Cloud - Lightning, Tifa - Ice, Barret - Restore), I have at least two party members with restore-all, though usually all three.

- The ATB, it's so slow and that's going to annoy me.
Coming off of FF13, the battles are so slow it's killing me.

What's everyones battle strategy?
I use a lot more magic than I did the first few times I played through the game.

Which materia do you give to the characters?
Cloud gets Restore and Bolt-All. Tifa gets Fire, Ice, and Restore-All, Barret gets nothing for now because he's already long-range.

Heh that's how I do things too, everyones attacks are usually powerful enough so I don't really need to use magic.

The battle system is pretty straightforward and no class system means characters don't have to specialize... FF7 with a class system would be pretty cool.

You can make it go faster by altering the config. I did that pretty much straight away - that and switching O and X around in the controls.

What's everyones battle strategy?

HIT X UNTIL ALL THE ENEMIES DIE. Cure-All when needed. That's about it.

I also give Cloud Choco/Mog because... I don't know. Barret and Red get Fire, Tifa gets Steal.

I have a bad habit of saving MP or whatever it's called in every game. Sometimes I wonder if I got this bad habit from FF8, but I remember doing it in Mario RPG as well.
