Group FFVII Playthrough - Week One

Jan 02, 2011 15:48

There’s been a few changes to the timeline, just FYI. First of all, I’m posting this earlier than anticipated due to unexpected scheduling conflicts. Secondly, I’m giving us an extra week to finish everything due to February being a short week! The full schedule will be at the bottom.

If you're sharing save files for PC, EMU or over PSN, post them or instructions to accessing them here.

FOR THE PS3.

You'll need a USB flash drive to transfer a save to the PS3.
On your USB drive create a folder and name it PS3.
In the PS3 folder create another folder and name that EXPORT.
Inside the EXPORT folder make another folder and name it PSV.
The PSV folder is where you put your save file.

If you're copying your save file from the PS3 to a USB drive it will create the folders for you.

Plug your USB into your PS3, go to "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)", select your USB drive and the save file should show up. Then copy the file to your internal memory card. If you haven't created an internal memory card then do that first.

It's probably a bit too early to upload saves now since it's the beginning of the game but when I do I'll most likely upload them in rar files.

I always interpreted "This isn't just a reactor!!" as referencing the Nibelheim reactor, which was both a reactor and pod monster plant.

That would make sense!

A little more before I vamoose:

- The opening bars of Bombing Mission and Aeris' face always warm the cockles. My cockles are so very toasty.
- I'm aiming for Aeris date while still choosing all of the "Tifa's my girlfriend" dialogue options. I checked the affections guide and mathed it out - should be possible.
- Intended battle party: Aeris/Tifa. Not sure who I'll switch to on Disc 2 yet.

We should try to have everybody in our party across this playthrough so we can check for and post unique pieces of dialogue. I know I probably haven't seen all of them myself.

AND A LITTLE MORE paperclipchains January 3 2011, 05:23:30 UTC
Did anybody ever talk to those two guards in Sector 7? One is like, training and the other is teaching him how to be a pushy jackass? I love those two.

ON THE TOPICS OF DISCUSSION-

-I remember getting chills from seeing the transition from stars to mako to Aeris's face, and then the zoom out to the whole of Midgar. Hell, I still get it. That's the opening animation of a lifetime.

-Still deciding on (ridiculous) names. I take suggestions!

-Party, as per tradition, will be Cid and Vincent. Before those two join, as per tradition, my party will be Aeris and Red XIII.

-Don't really plan on focusing on doing anything special with dating. I like getting Aeris for the date, so I suppose that's what I'll do.

-Goals? Mostly being able to play through the game in a timely fashion for once, and doing it with a more intelligent understanding of the plot for once.

Your icon has reminded me that I need to be on the lookout for all the Engrishy lines in the game. ^_^

Okay, that should be our collective goal.

This was the first time I've hit Gossip Girl telling Cloud she'll come up with something new to "poque your interest",

Will properly start this in a bit - gotta get the game from the PS3 onto the PSP.

I'm probably gonna constantly rotate party members. They'll all end up overlevelled anyway because that happens when I play games. However, I'm planning to have Tifa and Yuffie as primaries, with Barret and Cid as the big secondaries. Aeris will see some use when she's around, only really because Fury Brand is the shits.

I used to always go for the Tifa date, but this time I might switch it up and go for Yuffie. Not quite certain yet, but I'm leaning toward Tifa again.

Booting it up makes me feel totally nostalgic. I've played this game once a year since '97, and I still almost always let the prelude play completely before loading my game.

I was tempted to name everyone either Sephiroth or They, but I think I'm going to stick with their original names. My normal party is Yuffie and Red, but this time I might switch it up a bit. I'll probably date Aeris.

Midgar and the reactors are definitely a lot more dark and grungy compared to the compilation. Shinra is a lot less family friendly.

My favorite part is Cloud being a jackass throughout this entire opening segment.

I remember running around Midgar in Crisis Core and how empty it seemed. The facade was there but Midgar in VII feels packed and dirty.

I have to asy that coming out of FFXIII I really appreciate the context shots of Midgar, too. They really help you understand the setting.
