Yup all by me onesy. Until next wed eve it's just me and Pinkers. I've been going through a lot of netflix, I'll have you know. Mostly chick flicks that J would never want to watch. Pinky's been moping a lot, following me around, and being very cuddly.
It's weird not having anyone to bake for...last night I made cucumber sorbet and tzatziki to use up some cucumbers and spaghetti bolognese for dinner. I still have about 15 cucumbers to get through. I wish I had taken a picture of the giant one before I turned it into sorbet. I swear it weighed at least 2lbs on its own. Crazy. I'm thinking of making cucumber kim chee in the fridge, but I don't have any mason jars, so tomorrow I'm bringing some for co-workers. They have been asking me when I'm going to bake again. I don't even know what to do with the tzatziki, it's not like I can make gyros or anything. Maybe I'll make some fries. Tzatziki and fries is awful tasty.
I think I'm going to bake tonight anyway. I desire cupcakes and yesterday I made use of my brand new cherry pitter and pitted about 2lbs of cherries. I need to use them now. I'm thinking Cherry Vanilla teacakes with some almond thrown in. An entire pie or set of clafoutis would feel like too much and wouldn't be conducive to taking to work.

How you getting around to work and stuff? Funny, that was Mike's first question when he heard Jason was going all Euro.

No ice cream maker, I just stir it all up by hand every hour or so. Makes the texture more like granita than sorbet, really. Which is why I haven't tried proper ice cream yet. I made a strawberries and cream sorbet that was awesome tasty and I've got mango and cream and mango lime in the freezer now, but I haven't had the urge to eat it.
The only thing that really keeps me from baking at the moment is the dishes. J is usually my dishwasher. I hate washing dishes, generally, so I've been doing them bit by bit.
I was going to make a gnocchi lasagna tonight with the last of the bolognese sauce I made last night, but I tried the tzatziki and I had to have it instead. So I made a bunch of french fries and tzatziki for dinner. So tasty and garlicky. Next time though, I need to grate the cucumber even finer I think. It is an awful word to type, isn't it? Even when I've spelled it right, I'm still not sure.
I've been catching the bus to work. I was catching the bus home too, but I've had such god awful luck with the bus all week that I just walk home instead. It takes me about an hour, but it takes me at least half an hour on the bus, if they're running on time, which they never are. We went to the store before he left, so I'm all stocked up, food-wise. Basically it's work and home. Everyone is apparently worried about me being all alone. I think people honestly think me incapable of taking care of myself. I know they mean well, but at the same time it's a little insulting. Work is 2 miles from home, practically in a straight line. I'm more worried about the dog. He's so very sad.

Heh, yeah... I didn't think getting to work would be an issue. It's not winter. Unless it is just too godawful hot. I forgot about catching a bus as an option. Ugh, I caught the bus a couple of times when I was at my mom's. It was horrid. A 10 minute drive - nearly an hour and a half bus ride.
I'm more concerned that you are baking goodies with no one to eat them. That's sad (I want some), and fattening (I still want some). Hehe.
*thinking real hard* How often have you been alone? I've never lived alone - never dormed for longer than a month. Ha, most of my alone time was while I was housesitting.
Poor Pinker-nator. (Strange, why am I thinking latex and bunny ears now.)

Believe or not, I would say the bus system in Hawaii is def better than here. Way better. The only thing good about this bus system is that it runs until 2am or so and starts back up around 5, but since that doesn't impact me, I still like the Hawaii system better. I think it's got better interconnectedness of getting from one bus to another or one part of town to another.
Well, I've held off on really baking until today. I think I'm going to bake today. Leftovers will go to work on Monday.
I guess I haven't been alone very much at all. Not like this. J went to NC to visit A once and I was alone for a long weekend. And once he went to NY w/ G, so I was alone for about 24 hours. This is the longest so far.
Poor Pinky, he was so good for the first 4 days. Now I think he's sick of me and wants his dad. He's acting all hurt and sad and extra mopey and not listening to me much anymore. I hope he gets over it...otherwise it's going to be a pain to deal with for the next 5 days.
J comes home Wednesday evening. I think Z comes in then too, but I'm not sure. Yah, J is the stay at home dad. Heh. I think that's what's really upsetting the dog. He's not used to being home alone when I got to work. Poor puppy. It wouldn't be so bad if he actually played with his toys, but nope, it's just Mopey McSadface all day.
If you ever make up here to visit, I am going to bake so much...honestly. I freaking love baking for people, but the people I like baking for the most (Hawaii peoples, family) are the people I never get to bake for. It's just not the same trying to do it back home, hoping they've got the right stuff, trying to gauge everything with the oven that runs hot...too much hassles and never enough time. There's so much food I want to make for you guys.
15-16 oz greek strained yogurt (if using regular yogurt, strain for a few hours) 2 cucumbers - seeded and finely grated grated garlic - i use ~4 cloves, may use more next time tbsp or so olive oil tbsp or so lemon juice or vinegar
squeeze all the water out of the cucumbers, then mix everything together and let it sit in the fridge over night. If you try it right away it'll just taste like yogurt. It needs to sit for a while in the fridge to absorb all the flavors. The longer is sits, the more garlicky it gets. Should last ~ a week in the fridge.
Make sure you get as much water out of the cucumbers as you can. If you don't use strained yogurt, it'll be too liquidy and will never thicken. Still edible, and prolly usable, but not as tzatziki. easy peasy!

I was just wondering what herbs you like in yours? I think I like a lil' mint. But I rarely have it in stock.
