I read the book before I saw the movie and it was so scary I didn't read it before going to bed :o) Btw, the book actually explains the background of Pennywise - something that got cut out of the movie, but it's not a loss, I'd say. Anyway, I liked the movie as well, but after getting scared a lot by the book, the movie didn't scare me that much anymore. Your post reminds me that I wanted to re-read It for ages...
It was so long ago that I don't remember mush about the differences between the book and the movie - except that it wasn't Eddie's pacafier they passed around to bond through the first time they went down.
All that said - spoil me? What is Penny's backstory?
Ok, so I didn't imagine the turtle (that's where my fascination for them as an animal came from.)
I like to think that the Turtle helped in small ways even in the movie...
I doubt that Pennywise directed that boat to his front door so they could find his physical self.
And I think the print out of "He thrusts his fists against the posts" for Bill was a help - after all he had forgotten it - but he used to use it to ward of IT.
I don't think it's confusing and I think that it adds to any story to know the how and why.
To me it's the difference between
A.) A little boy fell down in the mud or B.) A little boy fell down in the mud because he heard the monster howl right behind him and was startled.
Awesome choice in movies there! I looove that one. Ya got me wanting to read the book this month. Since it's oct and all. Oo yeah, one of my favorite books and films by King!
Hey, hey. Now I don't scare easily, but yikes! Some people out there have clown phobias...that was frighting that picture, should have posted a warning and placed it behind a cut! LOL...I'll be ok....just almost made my computer fall of my lap though when I saw it.....Evil laugh inserted here.

Now, which makes for a better story?
