The Book: Finished

Aug 06, 2008 00:25

So I finished Breaking Dawn yesterday. I think it took a total of five hours to read. Let me say that I was, for the most part, pretty excited about this final segment. I mean, I didn't expect much. Because I never expected anything astonishinly spectacular from the series. The Twilight saga is less like a shiny toy and more like the shiny packaging that amuses for some time. I am waiting for the shiny toy that is Neil Gaiman's next novel. Alas.

I mean, I loved the series, despite any badness. It was fun and easy and a nice break. I thought the second book was unneccesary and the third book a tad boring. So the first and last, I suppose, were what made it worth it?

Which is worrysome, as I'm not sure how I feel about BD. I liked half of it. Some of that half was predictable, but whatever. Fun, remember? The other half was spent eye-rolling over the absurd and REALLY predictable and the goddamn emo.

Bella: I AM SO GLAD YOU DIED. FINALLY. I liked her as a vamp. Not so much human. Vampirewise, she's kinda kickass. Unfortunatly, Vampella didn't appear until the second half of BD. Gee, Meyer, maybe you should have gotten around to that bit a little earlier? Like.....Book 2? GAH.

Edward, darling boy, became even better once Bella was vamped. Because not every minute was spent arguing over mortality/risks/lost humanity/souls/EMOANGST. It clicked into place. Finally.

Which leads to....pregnant!Bella? REALLY? Jeez. It didn't really work for Angel, buddy. Give it a rest. I figured it would happen, though, so I went with it. And since Resnendlgksjbh's (srsly, wtf name. It was like a Harry Potteresque Epilogue rolled into one child) birth triggered cooler EdVampBella, I enjoyed the results of teen pregnancy.

That the plot revolved around it was slightly tiresome. But cute. I think. Yeah. Cute.

Jacob, I will never really like you. And the imprinting thing, I saw it coming the second the bun was in the proverbial oven. Blech. But it made it more tolerable for him to NOT be pining over Bella. God. That bugged me so much. Bella must have chocolate/blood/milk-bone-flavored nipples or something.

I still think Jasper is the coolest. Prolly my favorite of the Cullens because he is so very practical and..and....neat? He has SCARS. Tragic past. Alice as a girlfriend. SO COOL.

In a close second, and what REALLY made the book for me, was Garrett. Yes, for the whole one-full page where Garrett struts his stuff I was at my happiest. Hippie revolutionist with a thing of taking adventurous risks? Hells yeah. Him and Kate = best couple in the series.

But I am biased, as my favorites tend to be the side-characters (d'awww Regulus).

So, it was a fun cardboard box to play-pretend in, over all. I'm glad she ended it the way she did.

Even if I did have a lot of moments where I wanted to yell, quite out of place, "Jesus Christ, Scott, just SHUT UP" ....which is my standard X-men reaction whenever Scott Summers talks. Or breathes.

Yeah. There were a couple Scott characters. Ah well. Hee. Satisfied!Doctor is adorable
