Brussels Sprouts, those two words have the power to drive children out of the room with their hands over their ears faster then any other two words I know... which is understandable when you consider they don't react much better to most vegetables... fair enough.
The problem is I have seen grown adults have the exact same response... our next door neighbor once proclaimed that she would happily eat anything I cooked, except the deadly sprouts. My wife a foodie and and a more accepting palate could barely muster up more then a "meh" when the subject of these tiny green globes was raised... and then I served her this... and the skies opened up, angels sang and she began to beg me to make more... today. So of course I'm going to have to find my way over to our local produce stand the next time we go go shopping - and I'll plan to have this dish at least 2 next menu round... and maybe I'll invite my next door neighbor over.
Brussels Sprouts
Garlic
Bacon Bits
Chicken Broth
Olive oil or butter (I prefer butter)
Put your Brussels Sprouts in a pot and cover with chicken broth
Boil for ten minutes (this assumes fresh sprouts - if frozen make it 3 minutes)
Cut in half and toss into a frying pan with olive oil or butter, minced garlic, and bacon bits.
Let sit for about 5 minutes on medium heat (Keep an eye on these as stove temps can vary - they should be browned but not black) and then give them a stir to get as many sides browned as possible.
