Spiced Nuts

Dec 03, 2009 13:03

Since I was a little girl the holiday times have meant spiced nuts - usually bought in those crinkly paper cones you buy when drifting through the mall in search of the perfect presents... it's a matter of nostalgia... that and they just taste damn good.

Imagine my delight and surprise when I discovered a couple of years ago that you can make these at home and that they're easy to make! I use them for everything from topping cupcakes, to putting in oatmeal... and at least once during the Christmas season I have to make a batch of them just to put out and eat.

Note - not all nuts lend themselves to this process in my opinion - I think there's a reason the only nuts you really see at those little seasonal vendor booths from heaven only sell Peanuts, Pecans, Almonds and very occasionally walnuts.

Nuts - I recommend Almonds or Pecans (Or a mix of the two)
Enough egg whites to coat your nuts

White Sugar
Cloves
