A little drabble that's basically an average day at the Butcher's.

Title: Meet Your Meat
Characters: Zombie, Eyepatch, Castor, Lost, Mute, Dog (Zombie's dog), The New Guy (Apostle)
Rating: PG-13

Meet Your Meat

Zombie usually spends five minutes staring at Eyepatch until he wakes up. He just stares, possibly from one of the corners, and sometimes right in front of him.

“I know you’re staring at me.” Eyepatch tells him.

“Then get up, I’m hungry.” Which Eyepatch quickly translates from Zombie talk to something normal.

“I’m not cooking you breakfast.” He rolls over, turning away from Zombie.

Eyepatch cooks breakfast for him and Mute two minutes later.

Zombie makes Eyepatch open up because Castor doesn’t come in early enough. Not that they open early to the public. It’s mostly Eyepatch taking a morning smoke break and Zombie hauling meat over. Lost sometimes arrives early, but it’s just assumed he’s a morning sort of person.

By the time the Butcher’s actually opens, Castor arrives. Zombie is in the back cutting meat, dealing with the new guy. Castor stares at Eyepatch, annoyed Eyepatch can smoke in here but he can’t. He’s thought about bringing it up sometimes. But when Zombie walks to the front with a huge knife through his palm, he remembers why he doesn’t. The guy is weird, and there really isn’t another way to put it.

By the afternoon, the deliveries start to go out. Most of the meat has been cut, and Mute stops by to see Zombie. Zombie’s dog is with Mute, and if you look closely, you might see a smile on Zombie’s face. Castor has been tempted to walk Dog a few times, but she never wears a collar or leash.

“Why doesn’t she wear a collar?” He asks Zombie.

Zombie looks at the dog and then at Castor. “I don’t like collars.” He loosens some bandages around his neck.

Castor sees a weird metal thing around his neck; he swore Zombie was hiding some terrible smiley face tattoo under those bandages.

Eyepatch and Zombie fight a lot, Lost and Castor think. The new guy is too busy in the back mopping up blood and cursing something about some Jashin man. Zombie told him to clean because he talks too much.

Eypatch and Zombie fight about pointless things, but somehow agree on important things. It doesn’t make sense, but somehow Lost seems to understand better than anyone. Mute laughs at them sometimes, but when Castor laughs, Zombie and Eyepatch look like they want to shoot him.

Everyone in the Butcher’s seems to have a gun, beside Castor and the new guy, but that new guy is loud. Zombie has two, and he openly shows his guns. Eyepatch has one, possibly two - no one can really tell. Lost is supposed to have one, as Zombie gave him one.

Though, taking into the context, Zombie found out he shot himself in the head with a gun doesn’t help.

“I read somewhere that a human body was found here once.” The new guy tells Eyepatch. “Is it true?”

Now Eyepatch likes the new guy, really. That is a lie, but he is bored, and he has two more hours until he can go home.

“Wanna know how I got like this?” He toys with his eyepach.

“What the fuck does that have to do with anything?!” The new guy is always yelling.

“I asked him that once, and he got so mad, he ripped my eye straight of the socket.” Eyepatch says. “The only reason I stayed was because of the benefits and pay. He also begged to me on his knees to return here.”

The new guy just stares at him, soon going back to the cutting room.

Zombie always closes the store. No one but Zombie knows what happens when everyone leaves and it’s just him. Lost suggests that Zombie just wants to be by himself, which sounds the most logical, and thus was thrown out because it isn’t entertaining enough. Castor suggests he likes hanging out with dead things and corpses (there has to be a good reason why a guy picks the name Zombie, for Christ’s sake). Eyepatch feels like telling them some crazy story, but it’s too late.

“I like breaking bones.” He says, walking past them. “Cook me dinner, Eyepatch.” He looks at the remaining people. “Go home, you can’t possibly like working here that much.”

They all stare at him, and they aren’t sure if they should take him seriously.

But like they could take themselves and this shop seriously.
