[Set for Monday night.]
It is unanimously determined by all in attendance that the benefit is an overwhelming success. Though it's an evening full of as much tedious small talk as it is drinking and dancing, Martha and her last-minute replacement guest Lionel Luthor still manage to have a wonderful time, and the same seems to go for all of the very generous attendees.
The party finally begins to wind down around one in the morning, and Martha can tell it's coming because she can hardly walk in her heels. The rest of her, however, is holding up beautifully, filling out her
signature benefit gown. The guests have all gone when she and Lionel wait for his personal car to pick them up behind the venue, in a city that is fortunately more than dead at this hour on a Monday night.
"Alex must have fallen asleep waiting," Martha remarks, leaning on Lionel with one arm as she lifts one foot up to take her heel off, wincing. "Not that I blame him."
