"Miss Rosier, dance with me," Cygnus offered his hand. Druella noted how it wasn't a question, but almost a statement or an order. Feeling a little uncooperative, she turned away a little and looked up at him.
"Is that a request or a command?" she asked.
"I was of the opinion that making it a statement might make it true."
Druella tried not to smile. She held out her hand for him to take. "But there's no music."
"We'll make our own," he whispered as he held her against him and began to hum softly.
The Rosier drawing room was quiet and empty, save for two young people twirling slowly on the spot. Cygnus sang softly in Druella's ear and she found his voice to be quite pleasant. She did not understand the words to his song as they were in Chinese, but the tone of his voice suggested what it was about. Soon, his voice dwindled away and they were just standing there, her in his arms.
"I do believe dancing was just an excuse," Druella accused Cygnus laughingly as they stood still, her arms still around his neck. She laid her head on his shoulder.
"How astute of you, my dear," was the reply before he pulled away gently to place a loving kiss on her forehead.
Druella pushed the door to her parlor open. Cygnus sat on one of the couches, zither on his lap. He was playing softly, plucking the strings gently. She was quite suddenly reminded of a scene before they were married. She was transported back to her old home at a time when he had asked her to dance. "Is that your favorite song, then?" Druella asked, sitting down beside him.
Cygnus looked up into his wife eyes and shrugged. "It used to be."
Druella watched as he picked the zither up and placed it on the table in front of them. "Oh, why the change of heart?"
Cygnus turned to smile at his wife, drew her into his arms and kissed her gently. He broke away from her lips and trailed kisses down her throat and over her collar bone. He paused to lay his head over her chest. He always made her heart beat just a little faster. She looked down and played with his hair. "What are you doing?" she asked.
"Listening to my favorite song."
