Plumbing

So my bathroom sink drain was running slow. I bought some drain cleaner and ran it through, no effect.

I then thought it was the p-trap. I removed it. While it was lined with horrible gunk, hair, mold, and fungus, it wasn't blocked there. I figured I'd put it back on and snake it. Good plan, but the compression fitting on one end snapped from age and corrosion.

I went to Home Depot and bought a new p-trap. While it fit pretty well, the second pipe section was so rotted that my thumb punched through the bottom of the pipe while I was gripping it.

I went back to home depot and bought a new j-pipe. It took me hours to remove the old one. I eventually used a pipe wrench, a cheater bar, and a hammer to get it loose. Next problem: The fitting the j-pipe went into was corroded and fell apart as I removed the bad j-pipe. This fitting was a 1 1/2 inch pipe nipple which fed into a 2 1/2 inch cast iron T fitting. It was set back into the wall. I had to knock out large sections of drywall and plaster, then cut the pipe under that section in order to spin it 90 degrees. After that I got the nipple out.

I went back to Home Depot to get parts to fix the pipe I had to cut. After a lot of swearing, yelling, and screaming. I finally got it done about 10:30pm.
