Your kink would have fit perfectly, wouldn't it? Because I imagine Sherlock as very tactile, once he allows himself to want another person. And of course he would catalogue every detail about his partner and the sensations that sparked in him, because he can let himself really feel things for once. In my mind it's more about emotionally connecting with this one important person than physical gratification, you know?
So having him keep a connection after the fact somehow seemed the perfect way to end this.
