demonlordlover2 Prompt 2:
Sango worked quietly, rubbing away the blood of the demon she’d killed just moments before. InuYasha sat beside her similarly cleaning his sword. As she reached down beside her thigh to grab the rag that was lying there her hand came into contact with that of her companion’s. Startled she looked up, a light blush gracing her cheeks, as her brown eyes met gold.
She slowly withdrew her hand, a frown replacing the blush though the embarrassment remained. He had come to her rescue even after everything she'd accused him of. “I'm sorry.”
Face scrunched in distaste, he deliberately misunderstood. “Keh. Demon needed killing.”
Unwilling to allow his evasion, Sango sighed. The sword was sheathed, and she turned to face him fully. “I really am sorry, Inuyasha. I had no right to question your honor.” Her eyes dropped to her folded hands. “When Kagome had told us that you'd promised your intentions were honorable, I had a hard time believing it. My only excuse was that I didn't want an innocent hurt in a battle between siblings. Still, I should have known better than to even believe such of you.”
Inuyasha put Tetusaiga away before hopping to his feet. Made clearly uncomfortable by the conversation, he searched for a way out. “Forget about it.”
She nodded. “If it bothers you, I won't mention it again. Just know that you have my arm should you need it, and I will listen if you need advice to aid in your courting of the young lady.”
Grateful for the reprieve, Inuyasha nodded. He strode from the room, lighter than when he had entered. At least Sango and Kagome believed in him. Miroku would soon follow if Sango worked on him. Kagome had taken him at his word after confronting him about his interest in Rin.
He couldn't explain it, but he had been reluctant to delve into his feelings for the woman with Kagome. It just felt awkward. After her tears had begun to fall, however, he had known it was time to let go of his shyness and reveal how he had decided on Rin as a mate.
Rin was so quiet, so cheerful. And, unlike Kagome -- or even Kikyo -- she was content to follow rather than walk at his side. He was driven insane by the need to keep both former loves safe because they refused to obey. Rin was not driven by such an independent nature. She was softer. Her soul loving but her spirit tempered.
Now all he had to do was persuade Sesshoumaru that he was a good mate for Rin. It was going to be a long summer.
