I've been adopted!

I am the Little of a girl, Courtney, 5'2", brown-haired, soft-spoken, a dedicated student of meditation, and an amazingly nice person.

I am also the Grandlittle of Kathryn, the formidable matriarch and creator of the family name Apple Pirates, red-headed, dynamic, and almost as stubborn as I am.

Different as the pair of them are, they're my new AXO family, and I love them.

They formally adopted me last night in a very hokey / girly / 'vintage sorority' celebration. They took me out afterwards, and we were out until midnight or thereabouts. My room is strewn with their gifts: t-shirts, knick-knacks, toys, letters, etc.

As per usual in my life, they weren't exactly what I hoped for at the beginning. I wanted Becca L. to my Big, and I spent the whole week despairing as I received clue after clue indicating that she wasn't. The final piece of evidence came the night before last when I figured out her major from a few hints (elementary education). I almost cried because I love Becca so much. Fortunately then a few things happened which made me snap out of it, namely, I saw something about a friend that troubled me, and I remembered (oh yeah) that there are real problems in the world. Thanks be to my roommate for pointing out that something a friend posted was sort of troubling.

The real reason why I am so happy with the way everything turned out is because ast night Courtney and Kathryn were so excited I couldn't help but be affected similarly. I saw Becca today and felt a little bit jealous of her Little, but she still was friendly and kind as she's always been to me. I also realized how lucky I am to have gotten not just a Big, but a whole family who I love, because if I'd gotten Becca I wouldn't have even known my Grandbig.

Yay, so another step closer to Initiation and full membership. I am also kind of looking forward to reclaiming something resembling free time and possibly sleep. I love you, AXO, but you have not been beneficial to my health and sanity.

I had another amazing weekend. I went ice-skating on Friday, to a party on Saturday, and on Monday there was a snow day! I took lots of pictures and they're all on Facebook, so avail yourselves of the sight--but many of you are on the East Coast anyway and experienced the exact same weather, so you may not need to see snow. Most of ours has melted, unfortunately, but it provided some worthy snowmen while it lasted, and was great fun to romp about in in snowboots. That afternoon, I watched Sixteen Candles with Laura F., my carnation. It was cute and light and fluffy, but still fun, and now I can cross that off my viewing list. Would that real life worked the way life unfolds in Sixteen Candles. My favorite character was Ted, credited as the Geek, who was adorable as the geeky freshman with a crush on sophomore Samantha. He was great caricature of all fifteen-year-old boys. They really are hopeless at that age. But oh my, what happens in the following years.

Speaking of males, one of them on my hall gave me a great CD after we stayed up rather late discussing music last night. He is woefully untutored in classical music, something that I'm going to have to correct. But he is very knowledgeable about all the most obscure music that's been made in the last few years.

music, snow
