Kinda graphic.

So, today was like any other day.. long, hot, stressful and an added bonus of cleaning out some drains at work. about 30 minutes ago i heard sirens. I called my fam to make sure it wasn't any one of them. my dad comes into the door walking fast, no shirt, and throws the newspaper onto the couch. He disappears into the darkness of his room, emerging only a moment later with a new shirt, flashlight, and a much faster pace. He was out to play hero, and i wanted to join in.

i threw on my most readily available shoes(slip-on plastic sandals) and a hat. a train was stopped and we knew someone had been hit. We are nearly knocked over by a volunteer fire fighter(whom we knew personally) who told us what we already knew and stated they had enough people looking, we don't have to help. He drove off in his truck and we pressed on north down telegraph on foot. We see flashlights playing across the train. After crossing the ditch and scaling the rocks, we told them we would take the East side.

After walking for a few minutes we spotted a hat on the tracks underneath the train. I few spots of something dotted the rocks at our feet, but no sign of anything else. We continue walking and hear someone yell "we found it!"

Running across the inclined, rocky slope was very trying considering my foot attire and my dad gaining distance(with the flashlight mind you). We come to a halt, and looking at the train, to the right on our side of the tracks, was a leg cut off at the top of the calf. Under the train was a man (one Tommy Burtis we presume). Bones breaking through the flesh, twisted and lurched in ways I never expected to see anyone. His face looked like a mask, there was no smell. I surpised at that last fact.

A man approached and relieved us. We hopped the train and walked back by the body. My dad identified the man and we were on our way. Strange what you find when you go looking.
