But we're going out with one hell of a bang!
We've had 4 days in Toyko where we walked out way through most of the highlights listed in the guide book we picked up in London. We have eaten the majority of varieties of Japanes food ranging from Okonomiaki to ramen and love it (although I'm still looking for a teriaki).
We are currently spending 2 nights (one more to go) in a hotel on the edge of a lake near Mt Fuji which is a full 5 stars of amazing! We have 2 tatami mat rooms, one that is 12 mats in size with one end of glass looking out over the lake, and a bedroom of 6 mats. We have our own Japanese style bath that looks out over the lake in the bathroom and one of those crazy robo toilets. There's also a Japanese hostess that make us tea when we come in from the snow, brings us our dinner in our room and tends to our needs at breakfast. It's a bit strange as we're normally very independant people. They sent a man up to assemble our futon bed last night, but we'd already done it ourselves! We're not used to this level service.
The food is amazing, a large tray was bought to us last night that Sarah and I thought was for sharing, this tray was placed in front of me as our hostess went and gathered another for Sarah. I can now say I've eaten Wagu beef, but only 2 very thin slices. It is very tender but I can't help feeling a bit sorry for the beast! The dinner also included sashimi, crab, oyster, prawn and other wonderful delights.
I'm writing this whilst Sarah is upstairs in the public Japanese baths, where there are massage chairs, a large spa and hot bath of about 40 degrees, an outdoor hot bath, a sauna, a cold plunge bath amongst other things, and yes, is it naked bathing but the boys and girls have their own facilities.
We went out for a walk today, it has been very grey and foggy for all but one day so far in Japan, as we left the hotel the snow had just started to settle on the ground. We headed to a shrine on the top of a nearby hill (if it was clear, we would have had a great view of Fuji, hell we should be able to see if from the public baths). There was only a little wind but the snow was pelting down, all the trees were heavily dusted by the time we reached the top. When we got back to our hotel 2 and a half hours later, there was about 10cm of snow on the ground!
Tomorrow we head to Yokohama in a state of total relaxation. It may have been a bit expensive but it was well worth it!
See you all soon!
