The Strokes (not to be confused with Billy Squier's "The Stroke")

I careened in at 5:30am from the Strokes show in Boca Raton last night. It kicked some ass. It was actually one of the most pleasant concert experiences I've had. No lines, a big crowd, but a porous one, which meant you could move around pretty easily.

They played a lot of new songs, which was great, and pleasantly surprising, as I was wondering if they'd play for even an hour. They did, barely. No encore, either, because they're far too cool to give the crowd what they want. My theory is they just didn't know any more songs. They sound exactly like their album, which some folks find disappointing, but I don't mind, really. Hey, it rocks.

Quote of the night: "Hey, this is Miami, right?"--an obviously wasted Julian Casablancas. Now that's rock and roll! Now the bulk of my Saturday is wasted, and my right ear has been rendered useless, but it was all worth it.
