Snip snip snip . . .

Tomorrow I cut my hair. My last night as a shaggy-haired weirdo. To commemorate the occasion, I took my ‘fro for one last jog around the neighborhood. I’ve grown fond of the way it clings to my face when I’m sweating, as if my face produces some sort of follicle adhesive. The way random strands playfully smack me in the eyeball when I’m driving on the Interstate with the windows down. But the time has come.

I am always amazed at the sensation of getting a fresh start by getting a haircut. It purges all the old crap to make room for new experiences. Of course, this is not a new philosophy, and after all, it is just hair. However I also think of the good stuff that is also being lost. I often hold onto things too long--be they other people’s CD’s, memories, ridiculous hairstyles, what-have-you--and pleasant as they are, there comes a time to set them aside as well. It’s painful to overdo a good thing. Tomorrow I will bid farewell to my rocknroll mushroom cloud and assume a new identity as a corporate shill. Hey, I need health insurance.
