Yikes, lots of negativity in the air lately. I had a tough time handling it last night, and then I was ok when I went to bed, had undisturbed dreams, and then wham, it was there again in the morning. I guess it is to be expected. First I will fill you in

I think it is an excellent thing you are doing. I think you SHOULD go to Africa. I think you are well informed as to the dangers, risks and the reasons for going or not going. I think you and your husband are informed and have excellent intentions.
Now I can rant.
"it doesn't make a difference"? This is exactly why nothing ever gets done! Most people just see the fact that very little changes and assume that any help they could give is ineffective. This is the North American Societal viewpoint on a half-shell. They look at it, say "how terrible", change the channel and hope someone else will look after it. Horsecrap. I absolutely hate living in this Red Neck, ultra Conservative, money worshipping rats nest. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
I've actually seen people cross the street while talking on a cell phone to avoid having to help a man laying on the sidewalk bleeding out. They didn't even pause. Just looked, and did a quick 90 degree turn and kept on walking.
We've nurtured a "somebody elses problem" attitude, and it makes me sick. If it can't help us get ahead of the next guy, apparently it isn't worth doing.
So I applaud you and your husband. Go. Do what you can. Those kids never asked to have Aids. They didn't have any choice in the matter. Any difference you can make will be felt around the world. It all comes back to us in the end.
Most importantly, spread the word. Make people aware. Even if you have to scream it at them.
I've held back because this isn't my page.
Do your thing festivalgirl, there may be no other reward than knowing you were there and doing what you can to help another human being in need. But what else is needed??
nothing.

I have to tell you that I visited your site and checked out nologo and read the whole article. It was excellent... have you seen the Corporation yet? If not, go rent it. Right Now. There is also a book that a good friend of mine lent me called "Fatal Indifference" that I think you would love to read. I don't know where you can get it, maybe she'll reply on this site and tell you.
