Yes, quite. Is something the matter?

Nothing at all. There's simply such a small pool of ...scientifically inclined individuals here. It's nice to see it grow.

Welcome to Purgatory.

Name's Sikander Valentine, but you might as well call me Duke like the rest. Pleasure to meet you, Doc.

I'd give you the official explanation about this city but you seem to have heard it already. But did I hear you say you were looking for a job?

HE SEES THROUGH YOU LIKE PAPER. =/ festivaldance January 13 2009, 05:46:53 UTC
The pleasure is all mine, Duke.

I certainly would not mind hearing a more detailed explaination at all, and yes, I would happen to be looking for employment.

As it so conveniently happens, my organization is hiring. Medics are in high demand, though, so you would be welcome just about anywhere that struck your fancy.

Hm. I suppose you were told the bullshit about being here to atone for our sins?

Ah, I see. Organization?

Yes, yes. Quite.

White Fang. I happen to be the director, at your service.

The Speaker may seem well intentioned, but she's leaving out a few things.

Hahahahaha. Aimed RIGHT at you, Duke. =/ festivaldance January 13 2009, 06:34:33 UTC
Oh, I am most certain that the fine print of any contract is always left out of mention.

Let's see.

Well, Celestial Being takes care of the more martial duties in the city, so White Fang concentrates on providing the people the rest of what they might need to survive. Supplies and necessities, as well as research on anything and everything that might benefit the populace.

That system she mentioned, where the redeemed are sent home?

I've yet to see it work like that. People are brought here and dismissed on whim, and even if they get out, as often as not they're soon brought back.

Ffffft. Please. =/ Strikes = Thought. festivaldance January 13 2009, 20:26:47 UTC
Ah, yes yes. I think I understand.

Interesting...

What would I, in particular, be doing? If I might so bold as to inquire.

What a curious place you have landed yourself in, Citan. Curious and growing evermore by the minute...

White Fang employees are sometimes obligated to explore more dangerous parts of the city and handle monster specimens. As thing stand right now, I don't have a medic on hand in case something should go wrong.

Or if you'd prefer to do some exploring yourself, I'm always in need of reliable adventurers.

I am quite inclined to accept this deal, Duke. It seems like my talents would be well put to use.

However, if I might ask but one question. You mentioned research earlier, I would like to hear more about that as well, if I might.

I'd be happy to have you aboard, Doc.

Of course. As you've probably seen for yourself, the lower level is mostly devoid of electricity and other amenities that, for good or ill, most of our inhabitants are used to relying on back in their home worlds. Not everyone brought here is capable of self-sufficiency and many choose to stay on the lower level even when they're granted access above the Plate. For these people, we're researching substitutions. If the gods forbid us electricity, there are monsters and inhabitants that can generate it naturally. If the gods forbid us high-tech medical care, there are substitutes to be found. If any resource is denied us, then we have to look at what we've brought in ourselves and what can be found unconventionally.

That's what we research.
