Old news: Yes, Rachel, you Saved my Cheese™. Tamara's too. The party was a smashing success, but Tamara was too rambunctious to take coherent pictures, so I'm still trying to find a good one out of her fellow grad school students' stashes. I'd have to get into a really odd or bored mood to glue on the long pointy ears and paint myself blue again. November is not going to be a boring month, though. I can guarantee that.
Current news: NaNoWriMo is underway! Too bad my subconscious didn't choose a better time to inform me that we would be doing the contest this year. I wasted about two November days furiously sketching out a plot, and two other days falling asleep on the ground in unrelated miseries and exhaustions. At least two. Since I was so far behind, I thought I'd give up, but somehow got past that phase. A Jamba Juice helped, my first one since that El Paso juice with Rosie and family maybe a year or two ago. I am still behind, but the novel is finally coalescing and building momentum. I've written over 12,000 words so far. It really seems the quality of the writing is slowly improving.
I'm very excited! I haven't participated in any major competitions for far too long. This time I'm only racing against the clock. It is difficult, I'll say that. I'm reaching the point in the race where it's becoming seriously fun. Adrenaline is a boost you get from short and medium-term exertions. What do you call the rush I am feeling right now, jumping across days and motivating me through these four weeks?
Working title: "Clarity and the Pacing Threshold" (probably not final)
Genre: hard sf
P.S. I know the icon is inappropriate but it's the closest fit. Maybe I'll upgrade to the paid account simply for the blasted icons...(oh yeah, and to support LJ now that I'm using it again)
