I do always try to come up with some kind of resolution each New Year but I'm not really sure what it will be this year besides the usual: don't procrastinate and do exercise. And already, I have broken the procrastination resolution by not sending you all the New Year pics. Sorry, that will have to wait until maybe this weekend because I like to resize them.
I would like to, however, share with you a lifelong resolution, or more appropriately, goal. I have actually always wanted to do this (my goal) since I was a little girl, but never took it into consideration until recently--hold your horses, I'll tell you what it is in a minute. Here's how the fascination started. When I was younger, my siblings, cousins and including myself, made--what I loosely term--a pact to visit China together. We were all supposed to go the same year, but of course, that never happened because my siblings and I never had enough money; we were too young to hold jobs at the time. I'm not sure if we saved money in a jar, but if we did, the money-jar probably ended up as lunch money for school. I think it's been over eight years since we were supposed to do that and still, I haven't even been to China or anywhere East. I find that very sad and disheartening because I feel disconnected from what could be me and what my heritage is about. In a quest for learning about who I am, what my culture is about, and where my parents came from, I am currently taking a class about China (which is unrelated to this topic and a completely different story).
Anyway, my first and foremost goal of my lifelong goal (yes, there is a distinction), is to obviously visit mainland China. Now, my lifelong goal, is to try to visit every country. I would not want to visit the same country until I have hit all the others first. Once, and if I do accomplish this, my goal deepens. It would be to visit a different province or state which includes all the states of America, excluding Cali, Texas, and Wisconsin, for I have been there already. And again, the goal deepens even more. I would like to hit every city and town possible, which I know will be impossible, but my reason for doing this is because I am just amazed at how each neighboring town is quite different from each other.
I don't expect to really have visited every place on Earth possible, but I just want to say this: It will be sad if twenty years from now, I'm saying the same thing, that I still need to visit China. If that is the case, that would mean I did not even START on my goal yet! If I could at least half accomplish my goal, or even less than half (but at least have visited different countries), I think that is enough satisfaction for me. My goal may be unrealistice because after all, it is hard to visit every city and town possible on Earth (which is the last goal of my lifelong goal), but I feel there is so much out there that is different than from where I'm at.
Let me elaborate a little further.
Food. Culture. Social interaction. Architecture/landscape. Fashion style. Trees/plants/flowers. These are just some of the stuff that I'm interested in, and would love to see. This may be weird, but I do have some kind of fascination for exotic plants. The first time I saw palm trees in Cali with my own eyes, I felt mesmerized by its beauty. Same with the cacti in Texas. (This is probably the same reason why it's not healthy for me to go to the garden section at Home Depot--sorry, we have no Lowes here.)
The only thing I'm not too thrilled about when I do visit other places is the type of insects, bugs, or spiders that lay hiding under the bed or wherever they lurk to scare the #!@& out of you. However, I am willing to eat one, if, and only if that is the norm in the area. That is also because I love to try different ethnic foods (Indian is my fave). I've already tried Cognac soaked with scorpians and snake tails, with a bunch of other creatures, and various herbs. Although it may look frightening, it was actually good (that is my mom's creation by the way).
Alright, good night. Go to bed.
