From day one there was animosity between Draco and Harry that has continued on to this day. Hermione didn't actually meet him on the first day but she certainly did know his name. Still because she was friends with Harry and her background it automatically put her on the opposite side of the rivalry. During their second year he even resorted to calling her a Mudblood which is a foul, insulting name for someone of her birth status. Generally she tried to ignore him but during third year he pushed it too far which resulted in him getting hit by her. Hermione has no issue defending her friends by using varies tactics but most of the time she encourages Harry and Ron to ignore him - although it generally didn't work.
Near the end of sixth year he let Death Eaters into Hogwarts that ended Dumbledore's life and put Voldemort in the seat of power. The year after they were taken to Malfoy Manor where he attempted to deny who they were. She didn't see him again until the Battle of Hogwarts where he once again stood against them.
However he has yet to live through all of that and apparently dated her when she was here before (not that she remembers it at all). Draco has been making an attempt to be nicer to her and Hermione's accepting it. They even have a monthly tea party scheduled with Alice. As long as he keeps it up Hermione doesn't see why they couldn't at least be friends.
