Hermione met him the very first day on the train to Hogwarts, like other students she'd read about him in books when she learned about being a witch - however she was not nearly impressed as the other people were. They were sorted into the same House but it wasn't until Halloween that they became friends over an incident involving a troll.
Seven years, many adventures and a few life-endangering events later and the two have become like siblings. Their last year together provided a concrete bond between the two especially when Ron left them. Hermione was the first (and only person according to her time line) who has ever seen his parent's grave and house in Godric's Hollow with him and it was a grim Christmas for them both as they narrowly avoided Voldemort that night. Harry is her best friend and adopted brother and she'd stand by his side through anything and help him when he needs it. Of course Hermione has no issue telling him exactly what's on her mind even if it means they'll fight.
When he asked her to move in with them after she arrived in Somarium there was no way Hermione could have turned him down. Seeing as how they're all here for Christmas - she wants to make it something the three of them will remember. Sometimes she has a tendency to fuss over him like a mother hen and she knows he can take care of himself but Hermione wants him to know that they're here with him now.
