The traditional trumpet fanfare signalled the opening of the King's Court for business.
The Kings stood, raising his hand in greeting, and gestured to First Sister Talavaria for a word of thanks to the Spirits.
In the back of the hall, the chief herald had received the list of petitioners and was busily shuffling through papers so that they might be introduced. Out in the courtyard, the Steward had control over who got to see the King; the chief herald decided the order in which they would be admitted.
