As all Melbourne uni students know it is exams in a couple of weeks time. SWOT VAC is next week.
When the exam timetable first came out I rang up work and told them that I could not work on the 3rd and the 9th of June, as these dates are during my exam period. I did not mind if I did a swap with someone for those shifts or if someone else would just cover those shifts for me. I know myself, and I know that I will be in no shape to come into work. I also desperately need those two days to study.
The head chef told me that he would write the message into the communication book asking the other workers if they would be willing to work those days. He did not do this. I rang up on Tuesday (I was not working until the weekend), so on the weekend I wrote a message in the communication book. The next weekend when I went in (last weekend) I checked the communication book and saw that none had replied. The other lady I was working with told me not to worry and that because I had given so much notice (4 weeks!) that it was the head chefs responsibility to find someone to work those two days.
I just rang up work and got a completely unsatisfactory answer. The head chef informed me that it was my responsibility to ring up all the other workers and ask them personally if they are able to work those shifts. Only as a last resort will he have to find someone to cover the shifts.
The problem is that I am at uni today and tomorrow. I also do not know the names of the other employee's to be able to get their phone numbers and call them up.
I am working this weekend on Saturday and have a training day on Monday. On Monday I will hopefully be able to hassle them about the situation. If this doesn't get resolved I am seriously considering quitting. Money is nice but uni is far more important. I have done everything I can do, and it is on their part that they have not properly informed me of procedures.
Time is running out and I am getting very worried.
