Character: Draco Malfoy
Fandom: Harry Potter

Personality: Draco can best be described using the words "pompous" and "ass".

As the only child of a very rich, influential family of the Wizarding World, Draco is used to getting what he wants whenever he wants it. Throughout his life, his parents have spoiled him rotten - during his second year at Hogwarts, his father even went far enough as purchasing a brand new set of brooms for the entire Quidditch team. While away at school, he receives sweets and various gifts on a nearly daily basis. It is clear that while the Malfoy family is known for being cold and egotistical, his parents do care for him. His relationship with them may not be as close as other families, but it is most likely the closest relationship he's known.

Along with his "friends" in the Slytherin House, Draco puts forth a great deal of energy into making life miserable for the other students at Hogwarts - particularly the Gryffindors, particularly the Golden Trio, and particularly Harry Potter. After having his offer of friendship rejected by the Boy Who Lived, the two become bitter enemies. Much of Draco's rivalry with Harry is born from his wounded ego. For a boy so used to getting what he wants, he never expected that someone wouldn't want to be friends with him. Over the years, Draco comes up with various clever nicknames for the boy, which range from "Scarhead" to "Potty". Clearly, he has a way with words.

Of course, that's not to say that Draco isn't a good student. He is, in fact, at the top of his class, second only to Hermione Granger (a fact which infuriates him to no end). He excels primarily in Potions, which is taught by the Head of Slytherin House, Professor Severus Snape. Other than that, Draco wishes that Hogwarts would teach the Dark Arts - for obvious reasons.

Outside of class, Draco is a very adept Seeker on the Slytherin Quidditch team. As Harry is the Seeker for Gryffindor, their rivalry continues out onto the field, and as a result Draco spends most of his time during a match lobbing insults at Harry instead of actually looking for the Snitch. Though Harry is a better flyer than him, Draco doesn't let him off easy - he's not above employing dirty tactics to beat the other boy. In their third year, Draco even goes far enough as dressing up as a Dementor in order to distract Harry from the game, as well as scare him.

Draco is quite the whiner. When something doesn't go his way, he'll be sure to let everyone around him know. The term "drama queen" also strongly applies to him; he'll turn the smallest injury into a death wound and use it as an excuse to have other students obey his every whim, along with getting out of unpleasant or unfavorable tasks.

However, Draco does have a sensitive side, as all pompous asses do. During his sixth year at Hogwarts, Harry finds Draco in a very vulnerable state. Isolated from his "friends" and family, Draco is left alone to carry out an unimaginable mission for Lord Voldemort. He turns to Moaning Myrtle for support, and Harry stumbles upon him when his confiding in her. This encounter does not change their rivalry, but it does cause Harry to realize that the "Prince of Slytherin" isn't as much of an egotistical bastard as he pretends to be.

History: The Harry Potter Lexicon: Draco Malfoy

Draco Malfoy first met Harry Potter in Madam Malkin's robe shop. While the two were being fit for robes, Draco promptly flaunted his wealth and insulted Hagrid, whom Harry had already grown very close to. Later, on the Hogwarts Express, Draco made sure to insult another of Harry's new friends. Needless to say, it couldn't have come as much surprise when Harry rejected his offer of friendship when Draco extended his hand to Harry. Unbeknownst to Harry, Draco had only been attempting to impress the infamous Boy Who Lived by bragging about his family and trying to make himself look better by putting others down. In the end, his actions had the exact opposite effect: he and Harry became the worst of rivals that Hogwarts had ever known.

Also unsurprisingly, Draco was sorted into Slytherin, the Hogwarts House notorious for turning out evil wizards. He immediately claimed the title of "Prince of Slytherin", and due to his family's reputation, he had no trouble getting the other students to follow him. Crabbe and Goyle, two rather brutish boys, acted as his bodyguards and also took care of any dirty work that needed to be done. Pansy Parkinson filled in as Draco's girlfriend whenever the occasion was called for, such as the Yule Ball in their fourth year. Blaise Zabini was his right-hand man.

Most of Draco's time at Hogwarts was spent antagonizing the Golden Trio, composed of Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Aside from using embarrassing articles from the Daily Prophet as a means to tease Harry, Draco took every opportunity he could to use offensive language and insults against the Trio, especially when it came to Hermione, who was a Muggle-born witch.

At the end of Draco's fifth year at Hogwarts, his father failed to retrieve the Prophecy from the Department of Mysteries while on a mission for Voldemort. As a result, Voldemort's fury was directed at Draco, and the boy was assigned to murder Albus Dumbledore. In many ways, it was this assignment, coupled with his father's imprisonment and his family's embarrassment, which tore Draco apart.

While he tried to uphold his confident and cocky attitude, Draco was terrified. Though they had once been at his beck and call, his Slytherin gang had more or less deserted him - he lacked the power and influence he once had. As a result, Draco even resorted to confiding in Moaning Myrtle, a sad and lonely ghost who resided in an abandoned girl's lavatory. Harry stumbles upon him during one of these meetings, and he overhears that Voldemort will murder Draco's family if he fails to kill Dumbledore. Draco doesn't allow the other boy to leave without a confrontation, but even so, it is this encounter that tips Harry off to Draco's involvement in the recent events at Hogwarts.

Draco was finally able to corner Dumbledore on one of Hogwarts' many towers during a Death Eater attack. Despite the threat to his family, he was unable to kill the Headmaster. Snape intervened at the last moment, fulfilling Draco's mission and then escaping with the boy in tow.

Even though his status as a Death Eater had been revealed, Draco returned to Hogwarts for the next school year. Back home, the Malfoy Mansion was being used by the Death Eaters as a headquarters and prison. During the Easter holidays, Draco returned to the Mansion just as a group of Snatchers brought in the Golden Trio, having captured them as they were hiding out in the countryside. Draco gave only a half-hearted attempt to identify them - it was clear at this point that he had had enough.

Somehow, the Trio was able to free themselves. As they staged their escape and meet resistance from Bellatrix, Voldemort's second-in-command (or, at least, his right-hand woman), Harry managed to overpower Draco and take his wand from him to use against the witch. Dobby, a former house elf of the Malfoys and friend of Harry Potter, appeared and began to transport the Trio and other captives to safety.

Sensing that Dobby was about to Disapparate with Harry, Draco lunged for them, not wanting to let the other boy escape with his wand. As a result, he was caught in the magic exuded by Dobby as he Disapparated. However, Draco was not teleported to the same location as Harry and the house elf. While botched attempts at Disapparation usually result in Splinching oneself (having part of one’s body teleport to one location while the rest of it remains behind), this did not happen to Draco.

Instead, he suddenly found himself in World's End.

Appearance: Draco will appear just as he did in the movies. Unfortunately, his hair won't look as nice after a day or two, unless one of the gods decides to supply him with copious amounts of hair gel. (Also, his eyebrows will be blond! Shockingly enough, Draco does not bleach his hair. It's quite natural, thank you very much.)

Sample log entry: This was not his war.

It had taken Draco Malfoy quite a while to realize this. He had not realized it when the Chamber of Secrets had been opened in second year and he had nothing to do with it. He had not realized it when he had been left on the sidelines during the Triwizard Tournament. And he had not realized it when his father was thrown into Azkaban, all because he had failed to retrieve a tiny ball of glass from a group of teenaged wizards and witches. No, it had taken something much bigger to make Draco come to terms with the fact that he was not worth anything more than a pawn in this war.

He had finally realized this the moment he had been given the mission to murder Albus Dumbledore. It had struck him then and there that he was no longer on the right side of the conflict. He did hate Mudbloods, and he did find Muggles to be a horrendous waste of space, but he did not believe that murdering Albus Dumbledore, the greatest Headmaster of Hogwarts to have ever lived, would do anything to remedy the situation. The most it would do is keep Muggleborn students out of the school, which frankly did nothing to justify the crime.

This war was no longer about purifying the Wizarding World. It had been reduced to a simple thirst for revenge: Voldemort wanted to kill Dumbledore, and more than that, he wanted to kill Harry Potter. While Draco certainly wouldn’t object to the latter, he found that he didn’t want anything to do with the rest of the Dark Lord’s cause.

And somehow, it was this train of thought that had taken him to where he was now: holed up in an empty boys’ bathroom on the sixth floor, trying to fight back the awful, erratic choking noises that were threatening to escape him.

His friends didn’t understand. They had congratulated him as soon as he had received the order to kill the Headmaster; to them, it was the highest honor. Even so, they made no attempt to help him with such an impossible feat. It was his mission, and there was nothing they could do. He was alone.

He had wanted to run. But they would find him sooner or later, now that the Dark Mark had been seared onto his forearm. He knew he would never be able to succeed, not with a mission like this, not with something that Voldemort himself wasn’t capable of doing. Even so, a part of him had to try - the part of him that still had pride in his family’s name, though the rest of their world now treated it like dirt.

A sob managed to wrench itself from him. His hand immediately flew up to cover his mouth, muffling the sound as best he could. His eyes burned, and he shut them tightly. He would not cry. Above all else, Malfoys did not cry-

“You know, I won’t tell,” came a sulky - if not a bit hopeful - voice from behind him.

Draco jumped, hitting his head painfully on the stall door. Turning around, he couldn’t stop from sneering in disgust as he saw the ghost of a young girl hovering over the cubicle. Her leaky eyes peered out at him from behind a large pair of round glasses.

“Won’t tell what?” he spat, trying to ignore the way his voice shook, the way it sounded more like a sob.

“That you were crying,” the girl responded simply, apparently nonplussed by his attitude. She looked at the stall around them absently. “It’s a very nice place to cry, this toilet. Not many boys come all the way up here just to use it.”

Silence fell between them as Draco stared at her, not sure whether to be offended or grateful. She was clearly trying to be comforting - which was more than could be said for his own friends at the moment. He didn’t say anything in response, though, and she blinked at him owlishly.

“Well,” she said, “would you like to talk about it, then? The boys who used to visit seem to have forgotten all about me. I haven’t had anyone to talk to very much lately. It gets awfully lonely in the S-bend.”

Draco stared at her for another moment. And then, before he could think twice about it, he found himself pouring out the whole story to her, from his father being thrown in Azkaban to being left helpless with his family’s lives in his hands.

The tears came, and for once, he did nothing to stop them.

Sample journal entry: [The screen flickers to life without much prelude. All that can be seen are blurs of motion as the communicator is presumably turned around several times in its owner's hands. After a minute or two of this, the image finally comes to rest on the individual's face. A young man, either seventeen or eighteen. Slicked blond hair, narrowed silver eyes. He looks... less than pleased, and his tone of voice confirms as much.]

What is this...? Some sort of bloody Muggle contraption, no doubt.

[Swearing quite loudly, the blond looks away from the communicator to instead gaze at his surroundings. It's clear that he's horrendously confused by what he sees.] ...I didn't think Potter and his friends would hide out somewhere like this. Looks a little too dark for them.

[Turning around completely, he grows increasingly more frustrated and angered when he doesn't see the people he accidentally followed here. When he speaks again, it's in an almost tantrum-like manner.] If Potter wants to run away like the coward he is, then fine! I'm not staying here, and if Bellatrix thinks for a second that I'm going to-

[The rest of his words are lost as he starts fumbling with the communicator, jostling it from hand to hand as he digs through his pockets, searching for something. All that once, the motion stops, as well as his ranting. There's a beat of stunned, horrified silence, and then...]

That bastard still has my wand!
