{ 012 } - { voice } - { Fourth Wall }

[When the recording starts, there's a great deal of fumbling, followed by several loud crashes as if the communicator is being slammed repeatedly against something. Perhaps a wall. Or, in this case, a kitchen counter.]

If this bloody Muggle device doesn't stop shouting at me-!

[From the tone of his voice, Draco is clearly one step away from ( Read more... )

I’m certainly not complaining! Draco’s missed his mum terribly since he's gotten to World's End. ferretprince December 1 2009, 21:43:47 UTC
...Mother?

[He can’t help but sound skeptical, but he also can’t keep the hope out of his voice.]

[ despite the formality of her words, the relief is undeniable, words little more than a soft breath. ]

Have you been harmed?

There has been a severe lack of mommy cuddles in World’s End. :( ferretprince December 2 2009, 21:39:00 UTC
[He finds himself swallowing thickly, having to work to get his words out. God, how he’s missed hearing her voice. He hasn’t heard it since the dream, venturing to the Fountain of Fair Fortune with her - listening to her scream as the basilisk devoured her alive - seeing her decomposing form rising from the Fountain’s waters, crooning to him in that garbled, raspy voice-

He shakes his head slightly. He doesn’t want to think about that right now.]

No, Mother, I’m alright. What about you and Father?

[He has to ask, given that the last thing he remembers before arriving in World’s End are the events at Malfoy Manor. Letting Potter and his friends escape - surely the Dark Lord was furious with those who had allowed it to happen and had carried out some sort of punishment.]

[ sweet mother of god that's a horrible memory to have. narcissa's own tone is somewhat fractured, lacking it's usual clip. it's the wavering of his voice that tugs at her, as her own last memory is finding her son at last in hogwarts' halls amidst a torrent of curse flinging. finding him only to lose him again. ]

We're fine, we're both- fine.

[ it's almost croaked, for all the words she isn't able to say and the worry that chokes everything else out of her. ]

Draco- You should never have been drawn into this.

[He breathes a small sigh of relief. It’s reassuring just to know that she’s alive and well, along with his father. He clutches the communicator tightly; the way it shakes in his grasp is the only indication he needs to know that he’s trembling.

He isn’t sure how to respond to her statement and all of the nuances it contains. It’s unnerving, and it’s the first time he’s noticed how much goes unsaid between them. He’s never wanted to hold her so badly, never wanted to hear her sing softly to him as much as he does right now. It’d be unacceptable. Such affection stopped as soon as he began to attend school.

But god, how he’s missed her.]

It doesn’t matter. All that matters is finding a way home. And- and with Potter and his friends here, I’m sure we’ll figure something out.

[It’s a rather poor attempt to convince both his mother and himself.]

Yes, home.

[ she's not unfamiliar with the rumors that surround her family, the notion most would keep that they're some sort of heartless beings, different from other witches and wizards. narcissa is perfectly aware because it is a choice on their part. to be contained, sharp- to retain their dignity no matter the cost, throughout the worst of circumstances. -but draco is her son, the one thing she would go to any lengths to protect, dignity be damned- and to all but feel the tremble in his small shoulders, it wrenches the heart in her chest. ]

Well, everything in it's own time, I suppose.

[ the words are a breath, barely audible. she's heard plenty from lucius about it, about the magic of the place and the nigh impossibility of his return of his own accord. they've agreed that it would be far more likely, more plausible in any case, to find their way to him instead of vice versa, but it's a thought she keeps to herself. just barely. the need to comfort him, to just wrap her arms around him and remind them both that they're all ( ... )

Oh gosh, I don’t want to force you or anything! It would be amazing – but it’s your choice! <3 ferretprince December 4 2009, 21:27:02 UTC
[Draco’s a bit taken aback by the request until he remembers that his father would have told his mother of his somewhat dangerous plan to escape. For a moment, he clenches his teeth in frustration - she doesn’t seem to trust his abilities, either. Do his parents really have so little faith in him? It’s a dark and dishonest thought, and Draco banishes it as soon as it enters his mind. Of course they have faith in him - it’s others that they don’t have faith in. The Malfoys have never been known to be a very trusting family, and it would be foolish of his parents to trust the gods and other forces of this world to play by the rules, especially when it comes to escape.]

I understand, Mother. You have my word.

[Because he’s never been able to disobey Narcissa or go against her wishes, never. Being separated from her does not act as an exception to this.]

The company is awful, but... they have their uses, as annoying as they are.
