Fun with con men

Yesterday, we had someone approach us claiming our insurance would pay for the chip in our windshield. Came to our door after eyeballing the car in the driveway. We decided to do a little research and these are usually businesses of questionable repute. A little research on this particular one turned up 14 complaints to the BBB in 3 years, and a variety of bad reviews online. And he was trying to claim something was wrong with the windshield which is clearly not the case. Basically, he's trying to get us to commit insurance fraud. We discovered this has become a popular scam lately. And our insurance company told us they are very aware of this business in particular. So we're going to be passing that info along to our neighbors, many of whom thought they were going to get a free windshield.

We'll be making sure our car is in the garage as I don't expect this will go well when we tell them "no, we're not going to do this". According to what I've read online, their responses to people turning them down are less than graceful. Basically, when he came to us, it seemed fishy. And having dealt with a con man in the past that tried to pull one over on me...I knew something didn't feel right about it.

Hell, I never trust ANYONE selling shit door-to-door. And this fell into that "too good to be true" category.

Just FYI, from what we've read online and what our insurance company said, this type of scam has become very popular lately. If anyone approaches you out of the blue to fix your windshield for free because your insurance company will cover it...walk away.
