Today's
xkcd.
Made me search for "Premier Election Solutions" and "anti-virus"; found
this.
Thought #1 : Complete agreement with Randall Munroe. There is something
Why? Because anti-virus software is there to clean up after vulnerabilities in general-purpose email, web, or file-sharing software. A machine as single-purpose and as critical as a voting machine should neither need nor have general-purpose email, web, or file-sharing software. If it needs to contact another computer, it only needs to contact one other computer for a very specific purpose; it's very easy to write virus-proof code for this case. Diebold *cough* I mean PES is being very lazy if they're relying on vulnerable general-purpose software. with anti-virus software on a voting machine.
Thought #2 : OK, I still get most of my news from news.bbc.co.uk and reuters.com; but now xkcd joins The Daily Show as an alternative. Good? Bad? Funny? Sad?
