So, in an exciting confluence of events, today was my first day in almost two months with nothing to do. So naturally, I volunteered to help the Obama campaign. *dances* It was an absolutely beautiful day. 70 degrees, sunny, the scent of fall in the air. Wonderful.
I know it's the third of November, but there was still stuff that needed to be done, which was cool. I'm just happy that I got to help. Basically, I spent several (about four) hours walking through some neighborhoods, and putting "Remember to vote on the fourth" flyers on people's doorknobs, according to a list they gave me at the campaign office. I was a little nervous, because I was by myself, and some of the neighborhoods I was wandering through seemed a little ... rough. On the poor side, with old, dilapidated houses. I am clearly a child of the suburbs. I worried, just a little, about someone opening their door, taking one look at my flier, and, shotgun cocked, saying "Get the hell off my lawn and take your socialist propaganda with you!"
Clearly, I have an overactive imagination.
Really, everything went fine. I only actually talked to a few people. One young man (he happened to be driving a pick-up truck and wearing a baseball cap) who took one look at my flier and refused it; one old woman (my list said that she was 79) who called herself an "Obama Mama"; a man, fixing his roof, who commented on what a beautiful day it was to be making a difference.
But no, it was good times, and I think I walked about six miles, which was kind of fun.
In other news, I made dinner this evening (horray for home cooked food) and washed dishes to the news (read:
the Daily Show rerun) in the background; I felt so domestic. ^_^
And tomorrow, voting. *bounces* I'm so excited. I can't wait.
