I'm sure I should have said this sooner, but the recent spate of storms and power outages missed us. Power flickered five or six times Thursday night (the night it stormed the hardest), but we never lost power for long.
I had to work on my birthday, which is reason #635 that reminds me I'm now an adult. I probably could have requested it off, but the fact that I didn't is reason #636. *grins*
I took a Taco Bar (for Qdoba) which was awkward because Qdoba had lost power Thursday night and Friday morning was all about moving ALL of the food elsewhere. So, instead of having to drive five minutes to pick up my Taco Bar and deliver it to where it needed to go (the local university), I had to drive 35 minutes to a store on the other side of town to pick it up. What should have taken me an hour, took closer to two and a half. *sighs*
I also had to deal with the most unhelpful front desk person. I got to the university's medical center and pulled up to what I assumed was the main entrance. I walked in, asked "Did someone order a Taco Bar?" and the lady just looked at me blankly. "I'm sorry, I don't know anything about that. You'll have to go the main entrance," she says. WTF? I'm thinking. If this isn't the main entrance, what the fuck is?
After driving all the way around the building (much more complicated than it sounds) I FINALLY found the so-called main entrance (she LIED) and found an extremely helpful woman who was able to figure out where I was supposed to go and to let someone know I was coming. She even gave me a cart. She wins. So I walked back into the actual main entrance, giving the receptionist dirty looks and managed to get to where I was supposed to go.
I cut my finger in the process though, losing a hard fought battle with a can of sterno (little cans of jelly that burn to keep food warm). I felt really bad because I was bleeding pretty badly (think really big, deep paper cut, except from tin foil... ouch) but had to make-do with a napkin around my finger because the medical center didn't have any band-aids. (Again, WTF? *shakes head*)
So, much later than intended, I returned home to scarf down some lunch, change, and head to Field's for the rest of the day.
One of my co-workers baked me a carrot cake! Yum. She used Alton Brown's recipe (host of "Good Eats" and as Kat says, "Alton Brown is good eats") and it was delicious. I love carrot cake. I was a little loopy all through work 'cause I was kind of tired, so instead of interacting with customers (which is bad to do when loopy) I straightened our polar fleece. Oh god, I will have nightmares, but it looked much nicer afterwards. *beams*
When I got home (at 9pm), Ben was waiting at the door, ready to take me out to my "Birthday dinner." He refused to tell me where we were going, insisting that it be a surprise (he's so sweet), but we ended up at Sushiya, the new "Asian Fusion" restaurant. They had sushi. It was good.
And then, if that weren't enough for, he took me to see "War." I was stoked (but also kind of tired). The movie is REALLY good. It has some pacing problems, but it's unique, which you can't say of many movies these days. You might thinks it's going to be predictable, but you'll be pleasantly surprised. I think I would have enjoyed it more (and noticed the pacing problem less) if we hadn't been seeing it at 11:15, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
And that was my birthday. I came home and, deservedly, fell into bed. Good times.
