regina, i don't want to fight
i went to folk fest this weekend! FRED PENNER WAS THERE. seriously, he sang "sandwiches" and it got people stoked. (for the uninitiated: fred penner is a legend when it comes to canadian childhood. he had a show called fred penner's place and has written a ton of songs for children. he's just all-around awesome.) hailey and i were up front for his teaser session (in between being last night's mc) and it was fantastic. he kept calling himself 'uncle freddy' and it was weirdly fitting. next: i got a copy of marco calliari's album al faro est on vinyl (430 of 1000! i love hand-numbered shit!) and the lovely forty-five minute-long experience of staring at his guitarist, yann bochud. yeah, that shallow. also, to quote hailey: the man has the voice of an italian tom waits. i'll have to upload the record after i get around to unlocking the itune files. but the real highlight: getting library voices new album, summer of lust two weeks before its release. i got the last copy off the table and totally feel like bragging about it. they played a pretty awesome set, too. you can throw saxophones around without consequence! who knew!
also: hawksley workman is a douchebag who may or may not have spent a lot of time in a bathtub masturbating and listening to radiohead. maybe.
