After battling cancer for two grueling years, from the time it was detected a couple of months after my 18th birthday, my Tita Lucy was finally called by our creator last Thursday, September 11, 2008.
Tita Lucy is practically my second mother. Actually, a lot of people have been saying that all she had to do was “give birth to me.” She’s been my yaya since I was born, so she has been in my family since my parents were posted in Mexico, all the way till their tour of duty in Beirut. Since my mom’s a working mom, she and my Lola practically raised me from scratch.
If there’s one person in this world who knew me better than myself, it would be her. She was always there for me, no matter what. I could tell her absolutely anything without being judged. She was always there to listen, and never ceased to make me feel better when I’m feeling down. She always had good faith in me and trusted that I knew what’s best for me. Like a proud mother, her eyes would be beaming because of my achievements. Most importantly, she sacrificed everything-even her own family-to take care of me.
No words can describe how thankful I am for having had a Tita Lucy.
I know she’s in a better place now, and she’ll be watching over me eternally.
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, TITA. YOU ARE TERRIBLY MISSED.
No goodbyes. I know you’ll always be right by my side.
