After working Seven straight Eight-Hour shifts this week, I get ONE nihgt off so I went out to meet with some folks from North Texas MENSA to play a round or two of Mini-golf. This is at the place formerly known as "Scotties" at the corner of Park Ln and Abrams Rd. Near the Lakewood part of Dallas.
Naturally, I was late about ten minutes which is sort of normal for Mensa time, At half past, we had five folks and decided to go ahead and ply a round. Good thing is a round is only $3.50 each if bought in pairs. We made one mistake starting off, we chose the "Mountain" course. So it was a lot of climbing up and down stairs to get to the next tee. We also were Members of the Boomer Generation, so none of us under 45. We managed to limp along well enough since there were benches throughout the course to sit and catch your breath. We eventually DID complete the round on the Green Course and half the group was too pooped to go further but a few of us thought we'd try again on the "Shark Harbor" course. We assumed it would be flatter since it seemt to be more water and boat themed. WRONG!It had almost as many stairs as the other course. It also had several of the fun "hit the ball into a cup tha is the top of a tube that is supposed to drop your ball somewhere on a lower level but nothing came out of the pipe. we eventially wiggled clunbs and/or long lengths of PVC pipe down the tunnels to get not just our balls but several others out as well. Including a Softball from the batting cages at the other end of the complex.
Thse extra balls were saved to use in the NEXT evil ball swallowing pit as offerings toperhaps allow it to release our balls instead.Still we did manage to get at least a Few HOE-IN-ONE shots but no more than one for anyone.
I don't know the final scores, but it was really not a bad evening of entertainment. Prices at the clubhouse were a bit above the level some of us were expecting, and it did take a bit longer than we thought to do the two rounds we never even had a chance to try the third RED course. So perhaps we can do that next time. Then when we are done we coud go down the road a bit to
JAKE'S and get a Chipotle Burger of Flaming Rooster for dinner after. They got better range of beers, better prices great Onion Rings and are cheaper than the ClubHouse $18 beers.
Depending on where in D/FW other folks are, perhaps we could set up a Weekly or By-Weekly mini-golf meetup for local furries? Proably need to start around Six Thirty so folks get there by Seven abd play till 9:30 or 10 before go over to jake's for a snack.
