I'll say it again, my friend:

If I have ever felt badly for you before, it's simply because you chose to never see the bigger picture.
You only understand what you've chosen to see. And if you chose to see more, you would be incredibly let down.

That said, I am grateful to have rediscovered certain people. I am grateful for what has happened in the past two years. I am grateful for Julie Pangborn, Kyle Doyle, and Daniel Cavanagh. I am especially grateful that I have gotten such a wonderful opportunity to get to know Kristy Powell, a 23 year-old mother of two and wife to an Army Reserveman. Her father just passed away before her eyes, and then about five days later, she traveled to the air base to see her husband off to his tour of duty in Afghanistan.

This is true strength to me. She's going through so, so much right now. This is the most devastating kind of heartbreak--and if there truly is a god, I am praying that for her sake, and the sake of Alyssa and Nathan, her two children, Jimmy comes home safely and can readjust to this life smoothly. These are two of the hardest-working individuals I've met in my short life, aside from my own parents. And these kids deserve to have their father home with them.

Instead, he's obligated to serve his ten-month tour of duty...which will more than likely be extended.
It's just...I don't know. Heartrending. It's hard to watch Kristy bumble around, collect herself briefly, and then hide in the office to cry. She'll come out with puffy eyes and a runny nose.

I want to take care of her like she's still a little kid sometimes. :(

I know how much it hurts when someone you love leaves you of their own accord. I know exactly how much it hurts, and I know how much it hurts to have the remainder of your friends turn on you because of a choice to give a second chance purely because of love. But I don't think that sort of pain compares anywhere close to what this woman is experiencing right now. She doesn't ask for this--I'm sure she doesn't even think about it, but if anyone deserves another person's admiration, it's Kristy.
