Fic and crack
Ok, I saw a user pic on a livejournal and it struck a chord with me. "Bad fanfic fucks you up worse than crack" or something like that. I need to find out who made it and snerch it. As an avid reader of fanfiction, I tend to read the reviews first, then read the first chapter of almost every story out there. I'm not a fanfic snob, (or maybe I am) but I find myself sometimes getting angry at my puter and in a seriously foul mood after reading some fic's. I'm a total shipper and when I read stuff that has my favorite ship of that fandom paired unnecessarily with an OC, it urks the hell out of me.
What urks me more, is that like an idiot I keep going back for more, hoping that the trainwreck I'm reading rights itself and gets better. Why do I do this?? Does anyone else do this?? Am I a masochist??
I'm a huge fan of AU fic's, but not when the characters are unidentifiable. (Mary Sue's etc)
I look for a blend of action, humour, angst and love. I'm all for inner dialogue, and I was mentioning this to a friend of mine earlier today. After 7+ paragraphs of inner reflection while the other character is sitting there seems like a lot to me. I know that the thinking/reflecting probably takes place in seconds in the story, but if it takes me 3 minutes to read it, I ask myself what is the other person doing that may have asked the question the character is reflecting upon doing/thinking in this time frame? When the reflecting is broken up with dialogue every so often, it's cool and flows quicker for me. Again is it just me? Am I over thinking this? Sometimes I don't even notice it, and it's great, but when I notice it while reading, not so great.
One more rant before bed. Sweetheart, Love, and Baby are terms of endearment, not permanent names.
These are just my opinions. None of above mentioned opinions are aimed at anyone in any fandoms on any planets or spaceships. I was in bed with the flu for 3 days and then had to work the last 2, so blame it on the cough suppressants and Mucinex. :)
