Hey There Delilah. Such devotion, and that song's been on my mind a lot lately-not to mention my Niou muse is quite happy right now. lol.
They were always in such perfect harmony. Knew each other inside and out, so much so, that sometimes they didn’t need words at all. Niou Masaharu and Yagyuu Hiroshi: Rikkai Dai’s D1. The Golden Pair had never had anything on them, and they proved it they day they surpassed them. And even though Rikkai Dai had lost as a team, they held their heads high in personal triumph that day. Triumph that they beat the most aspiring and evolving doubles pair they’d seen in the whole region. They were flawless, and worked together perfectly.
Neither Yagyuu nor Niou had ever thought to take what they had to a higher level. They’d never thought anything passed the deep bond of friendship they had, and never wondered why when anyone got close to either of them, they got jealous. They both knew their feelings, and knew the other had the same feelings, but never went passed an occasional brush, or Niou draping his arm over Yagyuu like he always had. They were both reserved about their feelings, wanting to make every moment of their innocence last. They were still teenagers, and didn’t want to push themselves to be reckless, or the perfection they held so dear would be lost.
When they were around one another, their comfort level for any given situation became stronger. The most earth shattering thing could happen, or the world it’s self could blow up, but they’d be ok. They had each other. And all throughout middle and high school, they never had girlfriends or expressed interest in anyone. And everyone knew to leave them alone, except the occasional new girl in school, who quickly learned their lesson. Niou was just as protective over Yagyuu as Yagyuu was of him.
They day they got out of high school was the sweetest day to them. They’d go to college for their chosen fields, and probably share a dorm room. They both silently wondered if they could still keep their hands off of each other. It got harder and harder every day while they waited for the perfect time.
Niou, cleaning out his locker for the last time, smiled at Yagyuu, who had just come to get him.
“We’re finally out.” Yagyuu smiled back. The sound of satisfaction lightened his voice to one so care free it almost didn’t sound like him.
“Finally free.” Niou replied just as happily. They were the only ones left in the hallway now. Students had filed out long ago, but they stayed behind because their high school years were precious to them. They were both secretly sentimental about it, but there was never any reason to express it, because they both already knew each others secrets.
Niou and Yagyuu both stood side by side looking down the hall. They were wrapped in each other, but not touching at all.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” Niou was the first to break the silence. “This is the only time I’ll ask if you want to back out.”
“Yes.” Yagyuu’s voice was steady and true, and idly he wondered if Niou even needed to ask, or why he deemed it worthy to answer. He just somehow felt he needed to verbalize it. “I’ve never been more sure.”
True to their unspoken word, they lived, worked, played tennis (Niou even picked Golf up out of boredom, but found it was relaxing in a weird way.), and remained in love with each other until they died.
