Just made a trip out to sans souci library. I haven't been in a local library since ... well apart from strasbourg, since about first year uni. It was really nice!! I borrowed four books and am very excited at my community spirit and going back again tomrrow. It seems a good way to devour books without books devouring my sinking bank balance. It's good that I can walk there. I could never walk to a local library before. Unfortunately it's very very tiny so there's not much in the way of interesting books but they told me I can also borrow at rockdale and I'm excited about that because rockdale library is supposed to be heaps big and new and innovative. Plus they have a massive local history section (This is what prompted the trip to the library). And I can sit out and listen to the croat men and try to figure out if they really are talking about the war and their daughters and the communists.
I also bought the idiot guide to learning latin for $10 yesterday on a whim. I have decided I'm going to teach myself latin. I'm up to chapter three so far and it's going really well - it doesn't seem any harder than learning any other language and I am amazed at how many words we use every day that are latin. (hippopotamus for example!!)
These are all things I should have done straight after I quit my job, along with doing my centrelink application. It takes aaaaggges and by the time my payments start I should hopefully have a job but you never know, I could be one of those 'unemployable' people who will never ever get a job and you'll see me in 20 years on a current affair going "That bitch (karen) ruined my working life forever" and there will be wonky cameras and doors slammed in faces ahoyhoy).
A few other things happened last week that were interesting. I went to see Sigur Ros at the Enmore and they were wonderful. Very dreamy and pretty and sweet. The support, Amree or soemthing like that, were cool as well - they had a girl play a saw with a bow like a violin which was cool and they did the crystal glasses with water thing. It was lovely. I also went to Leeanne's brothers house who lives around the corner from me and met him and his wife and his five year old daughter Sam. It was sam's birthday and leeanne was helping.I basically came, ate some partypies and cheese puffs and then left with leeanne on a quest for frankencense and myrrh. (We found incense and spices). I bought and read 'Atlantic Shift' which I quite liked - Emily Barr is so deliciously predictable and good value. I borrowed and read Affluenza which was enlightening and put words to my thoughts and ponderings.
That is all.
