this evening my mom was married to a very kind and good man...
it was a great ceremony, cozy in a historic house near her home... we had about 50 people there, mostly her friends from the school where she teaches, some of our friends from my childhood church that i haven't seen in quite awhile, some friends from her music chorale that sang some nice songs... i made the cakes - carrot with cream cheese frosting and dark chocolate with whipped cream -my sister decorated with some really beautiful paper flowers (kind of like the cake i did for my friends' wedding last summer)... there was a cello and a violin, some good words, smoked salmon and other good snacks and lots of joyful people.
i really enjoyed my time at holden village - its a unique place and i plan to visit again. we had some really hot weather and the day that i left, i watched a big forest fire take over a hillside - i guess it grew 80 acres in 30 minutes! insane. i met lots of really great new friends - inlcuding some that i hope to see at gtu this fall... i helped bake lots of bread (they bake about 40 loaves twice a day!), i chopped lots of bell peppers, lettuce and carrots, helped make soups, lasagnas, spanikopita and all sorts of good stuff in the kitchen. heard from some fantastic pastors, scholars, professors and speakers... relived some of my favorite scenes in the brothers k (by david james duncan - the best novel ever.) i knit some and even tried my hand at the pottery wheel one morning. and i hiked a 22 mile hike one day! crazy! i'll try to post some photos later...
tomorrow i'm going to camp one night with my dad's side of the family - they get together every summer and i haven't been home on the right weekend since i lived here in high school, i think... so that will be good... then its back to california where i will meet up with dave! good stuff!
