I was reading some info on this book and somewhere on-line it said something like "White Detroiters see themselves as unique in this nation: a white minority in an urban setting that faces oppression and class disadvantages." It almost presents white Detroiters as the opposite of Black Chicagoans and Atlanta residents who present themselves as unique being largely Black and also middle-class.

Do you think white Detroiters face unique issues? Are they different from Caucasians in an LA or Seattle or Houston based in Detroit demographics?

First: I wish you would have chosen some other post to pose this question. Today we lost about a third of the entire staff at work (we're a division of Black & Deker, who lost 700 people companywide today), including the one person I work most closely with. That wasn't clearly stated in my post. From ten people sitting in the main office area there will soon be four of us...the remnants of the purchasing department.

Secondly: I can't speak to this because I do not study sociological issues nor am I acquainted with the how people from LA, Seattle, or Houston think or how it differs from Detroit. (Also, I tend to think that "race" is less a valid distinction that economic class...)

I'll have to do a better job of reading posts before presenting questions that are just interesting to me. (But it stands out to me that you put race in scare quotes but "class.")
