Some dude knocked me out of a tournament today. He did it, however, on an absolute miracle.
I raised pre-flop, he re-raised and I re-raised all-in. Obviously, he calls...
A picture speaks a thousand words, so here's the outcome. Yes, I'm the spades.
Let me tell you why I'm writing about this hand:
1. Q A suited vs J 9 suited, pre-flop, puts the Q A about an 8:1 advantage. (It could be a little less, because both hands are different suits, but it's close).
2. The chance of flopping 3 cards the same suit is about 0.8%.
3. The chance of that 0.8% flop being the suit the guy needed... 1 in 4 obviously.
So, I went from a 91% likelihood of winning, to seeing this guy hit a 1 in 400 shot on the flop, to have me virtually drawing dead. I needed running Queens, or Queen, Ace to beat him. This meant I went from 8:1 up, to being 99:1 down.
Funny game, poker...
