Steve Lamacq's 'Good Day Bad Day'

I've been listening to a lot of BBC 6Music just recently (try every day at work from ten 'til six!), and there's a feature on one of the shows that I always find myself looking forward to. It's called 'Good Day Bad Day'. A caller rings up and answers a few questions based on their musical experiences, then gives an example of a song they always listen to on a good day, and one they always listen to on a bad day. Listening to this feature so much has made me want to give it a go myself. So I've been sad and done my own one on here XD

I've mostly done it because I'd love to see what everyone else's answers would be. So if anyone gets the urge, feel free to steal it! (Since I already stole it in the first place, ho ho ho!)

(I've tried to remember these questions as best as I can XD)

First single: I have a horrible feeling that the first single I ever independantly bought was The Mr Blobby Song. Yes, go on, laugh all you like. That song is BRILLIANT XD. The first single I ever got madly into though, was Go West by the Pet Shop Boys. Apparently I used to flail!dance to this when I was about five. I don't remember doing that, but I still love the song XD

First album: Invincible by Five. I was a 90's kid, so the choice was hardly going to be a good one, was it XD. There was actually one song on there (an album track, not a single) that actually sounded rather musically advanced for a boyband - The synth and violin... It was awesome! (Shhhh! XD) I think it was called Battlestar. Oh, the nostalgia!

First gig: Four Star Mary at the Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms. They provided the music for the fictional 'Dingoes Ate My Baby' in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The venue was almost empty, since nobody knew who the hell they were. The sound was also a bit ropey, and loud enough to almost propell you backwards, but it wasn't a terrible first gig to have had. I still have the poster on my wall.

Best gig: AGH this one's so hard to answer! I was thinking about this all the way home on the bus :|. There've been many amazing ones, but I think i'll have to go with The National at the Pyramids, 2007. One of my favourite bands in my absolute favourite venue. You can tell it's great gig when every song they play sounds even better than it does on the record.

Good day record: The National - All The Wine

This song just makes me smile. (And not because it's got 'wine' in the title, either!) It's positive-sounding, it builds, and it just has a way of switching my mood around onto the more positive side. I'm still not sure what it's about, really - when I listen to music I pay more attention to the instruments (the drums, a lot of the time) and the general tune rather than the words. But it doesn't matter - this song makes me happy :D

Bad day record: Noah and the Whale - First Days of Spring

The heartbreak! Oh god, the heartbreak! XD No really, this is a blinder of a song. It's probably not the best song to listen to if you're feeling a little emotionally unstable, but the mood suits a bad day perfectly, for me. Another case of First Song Syndrome - You know when the first track on an album seems to be the best one? This is one of those. It's sad, but kinda lovely at the same time, all the way through. And then the violin at the end just completely blows your emotions to smithereens <333

my ears are hungry for moozak, meme
