end of an era
3/31/2016 was the last day of being a "medical transcriptionist". The doctor that was my employer retired, leaving me without a lucrative job. The office manager offered me a job working for 2 other physicians, but that would've meant that my best friend who has lupus and works from home would be out of a job....nope....I know one of these doctors do not like her and find fault with her documents that he has dictated, but most of the "errors" are HIS....I saw the underbelly of the biz and decided to take my chances.
It's been a month of looking to get hired at the school district in some clerical capacity...and looking on line for anything that I could transfer my skills to a job that would keep me employed at least 10 years. I did have 3 interviews, but was not hired. Maybe I do need to take the class on "interviewing skills", except that some of the time I feel this is for the "middle management" type administrative assistant jobs...you know...for women who like to wear dresses and heels...I've been a "worker bee" who has a closet of what could be considered "business casual" clothing and the body that doesn't do well with dresses and feet that hate heels!
So, I have 10 more weeks of unemployment and I'm starting to get confuzzled...a friend from church is looking at my resume to see what changes can be made...for those damn "key action words" ... the algorithms that the computers that scan a resume will probably not find those on my resume. I have done the same job for 40 years...only at different locations.
I really need to make a *to do list* for every day that gets me off the couch and out of the house...the career job center is 5 minutes from the house for computers, faxes, job postings, etc...but I have a computer at6 home and get so many on-line job openings...ugh. The only good thing about this being at home is I can now get the cats on a feeding schedule instead of "free feeding" since Deuce is 15 pounds and should be about 12. Obesity in male cats that have been neutered as small kittens can cause problems like with Rascal last year that ended up in us having to euthanize him.
Where can I purchase some motivation?
