...but I sometimes think that I should give up debating with religious folk... I make a simple statement that one aspect of someone's beliefs (not even the person's I am debating with) is bigoted and unjust... and what do I get to hear?
"You sure your not attacking her faith here? Your better than this Ben."
It is so rare that whatever religious person that I debate with ever understands that tautology, special pleading, and straw men are not welcome. The subject of Sarah Palin comes up and we're analyzing the nature of her belief system as it relates to how she governs the state of Alaska.
Personally, I think that it is bigoted to hold the following belief:
"But I can do my job there, in developing our natural resources and doing things like gettin' the roads paved, making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms and their guns... and making sure our public schools are funded... but really, all of that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's hearts aren't right with God."
Am I completely crazy for seeing this as bigotry, veiled in religious rhetoric?
