You know you have too many passwords when you type in your university username and password and wonder why it doesn't work. I did that twice. Just call me Einstin. (it is so wrong how bad my spelling is. if their was a hell for bad spelling I would be the devil)
So today I live up to the minnesota stereotype yet again. :) We meet the new arcadia girls, well I only meet one. the other I didn't really meet, just looked at.... (man does that sound perverse) anyways, I was talking to one of the girls about school and stuff. and she looked at st olaf in minnesota. and somehow something about everything would be fine and I wouldn't live up to the stereotype as long as I didn't have a name that ended in son. But guess what!?!?! I DO!!! hehehe!! yeah!!!!!! I am a stereotype!! yeah!!!! It actually makes me happy, because until I went to the UK I never really though the US had a distinct culture. Not like Germany or Spain or France. we don't really have a national food things like that. But now I realize that it isn't a national culture but smaller and it varies from state to state. I didn't expect everyone to know about krumkake and lefse or anything, but its still weird when you realize that not everyone knows the same things as you. No one but me and maggie knew what krumkaka. you are really missing out.
I finally looked up a definition for you kerri. read it and weep!!!!!! bwah ha ha ha!!
ETYMOLOGY:
Norwegian : krum, curved, crooked (from Middle Low German, from Old High German krump) + kake, cake (from Old Norse kaka)
Regional Note:
Scandinavian immigrants in the 19th century flocked to the Upper Midwest. The English they learned was augmented by Scandinavian words for their native food and customs. Thus we have krumkake, a large, light, very thin Norwegian cookie made from an egg-based batter poured into an embossed hinged iron similar to a waffle iron. Peeled off the iron while warm and pliable, each krumkake is then rolled around a cone-shaped metal tube so that it hardens in that shape and is filled with sweetened whipped cream. Cookbooks have spread the popularity of krumkake beyond Wisconsin and Minnesota.
if you want to see a picture do an image search. I can't figure out how to post pictures yet.
I didn't get any this christmas so that is probably why I am fixated on it now.
But I do realize that I have a culture and it is minnesotan!! yeah!!! I am just glad I am not texan. but my cousins are, texan and minnesotan. hehehe its really funny.
oh. can you tell I have and something to drink tonight??
But minnesota is awesome, and I'm sure maggie would agree with me.
http://vftg.8m.com/vw101398.htm this web site explains it perfectly. except the part were we are friendly but emotionally closed off. "show emotions!?!?! who the fuck does that!?!?"
I don't know where I am going with this. Just that being away from your home really makes you appreciate it.
P.S. they only reason I know how to spell lefse is that there is a lefse factory in the towm my gradparents live. wow. I just realize how big a dork I am.
hehehehe they actually have a mood for drunk. not that I am, just alittle. but have you noticed my mood thingy is a dragon, I thought it was appropriate for where I am.
